Black Vulcan rescoped

Well, I’m sure some of you can relate in the hunt for the perfect scope for your setup but at the same time trying not to break the bank. Unable to sacrifice $800 for a Vortex the hunt was on for a FFP scope and still trying to remain compact. There was a scope on Ebay that I kept my eye on, being a little hesitant on some these Chinese scope hitting the market not to get a dud. I took a chance on a previous Hammers ffp and loved it, so I just put this $200 scope on my watch list and let it marinate. To my surprise I looked at the scope one day and saw a special offer for $40 buck off. I thought get it quick at $160 with free shipping it can’t be that bad. Usually it take 14 days or so for come products to arrived but this one was different. The scope came via DHL in less than a week. The scope is made by Vision King and is a 2x10x32 ffp with a fixed A/O. It had a claimed weight of about 21oz which I thought wasn’t bad.

This how it came to my door.

Turrets are not bad at all considering how it looks. Nice clicks you can feel but not to audible. The reticle is a mildot with a 12 settings on red illumination.

Here it is mounted with my different modes of night duty.

Glass is clear and up to par with any good Chinese glass. It came with typical cheap caps and I replaced them with Butler Creeks quick release on both ends and it’s pretty sweet to hit those buttons and shoot. Overall I can say I was pleasantly surprised and think it fits much better that the Hawke 3x9x40 I had on it prior,

I was eyeing the Steiner TX5i 3-15×50 as well. Lots of features and best of all, it has 25 yd min parallax. Although it has that cool turret click indicator, there appears to be tracking issues from a lot of TX5i scopes. For $1,700, that’s a big flaw. I’ve seen them sell used for as low as $1,300 for that reason. If you have the means but don’t want the NF ATACR F1, get a March Tactical FFP 3-24×42. Illuminated on sale will still set you back a cool $2,678. Non-illuminated at a more affordable $2,036. The downside is there’s only a 5 yr warranty and major issues will require it to be sent to Japan for repairs. Luckily for me I’ve yet to look through a March but they have high reviews. Size, weight and mag ratio can’t be beat by other scopes but they’re not a mainstream choice. Probably due to price and once you get into the upper end of scopes, there’s lots of excellent competition. I’d still go with a NF at $2,300 though 😀 .

I agree, the Bushys have great glass. The Vortex is the best bang for your buck. I also have the 2.5X10 FFP PST and it’s perfect on the taipan short. I wouldn’t want more than the 32 mm on that gun. I got to disagree with one point, if money were not an object this would be my bullpup scope:

This is straight up bad ass…

I own a Vortex PST 2.5-10×32. It’s a lot of scope for the price. Lots of features (FFP, illum & zero stop). Glass is pretty decent but I made the mistake of looking through better glass and temptation won. First I picked up a Bushnell Elite Tactical 6-24×50 and though I’d be satisfied. It’s noticeablely better than the PST glass wise but you forfeit some features. Then got a Bushnell LRHS 3-12×44. Wow, the LRHS is a sweet scope. Very good glass and the elevation turret is very nice. I think a 42-44mm objective is perfect for bullpups. Next scope I’m eyeing is the Nightforce SHV 3-10×42. SFP but specs and quality sounds very good for a compact hunting scope. If money was no object I’d get a NF ATACR 4-16×42 F1. 10x is the lowest max mag I’d buy a scope with but 15-16x is the max unless you shoot benchrest. For backyard shooting 12-15x is more than enough out to 100 yds. With good glass, you still get lots of details at max magnification.

Actually it’s very clear. Took a squirrel out at 60yrds yesterday and actually saw the fur blow out the other side. For me this scope will be good out to 100yrd with no problem. I read the PST Vortex was a great scope.

Why Hoot?? Does his dog have pea size nut’s?? Only the Hoot: will know…..

quote ElmerFudd:

Let us know how it turns out. The slogan on the box made me cringed. I had to read it a couple of times before realizing I read it correctly. Just my personal opinion but I think a highend airgun ($1,500+ in this case) deserves better glass. Most are aiming at pea size targets 50 yds and further away. I don’t think the glass on the Vortex PST is good enough to do that at 10x.

Dear Mr. Fudge…

The Vortex is an excellent scope with startling visibility, clarity, brightness, and pea-sized accuracy at 50 meters, which is more than I can say for your dog!!!

Kind regards,
