Bling Barrel
After several attempts to make a slip on LDC for my Bird I finally gave in and bought one of Rods Shrouds ( really nice design). But during my attempts at a PVC version, it was stuck on the end of my gun. During removal, I scratched the shit outta my barrel.
Now, I figure, I could polish and shine the barrel alot easier and cheaper than getting it re-blued.
Any input re. methodology, supplies, and dangers (warpage) would be appreciated.

I have a barrel in the white from Tony and it is has a high polish. I rubbed it down with divers silicone and it is still shiny years later.
Thank You. Now I cant wait to get home and fire up the wheel. Its shrouded, but when I remove the shroud, its upsetting to see the scratches. None of my powderburners are safe queens, but they look that way. I like keeping my stuff looking, and working perfect.
_/\_Polish to your hearts content, or until mirror finish, keep the water bowl handy and dip, when it gets too hot to hold. Add some jeweler’s rouge to the buffing wheel from time to time. If the barrel gets hot enough to turn blue, you might get some warping and ruin the barrel. You’d haft to have some tough fingers to hold a metal barrel getting that hot.
Just buff all the bluing /scratches off and keep the barrel kool in the process, dipping it into the water when it gets too hot to hold in hand without gloves. Of course you’ll need to clean the bore and keep the outside coated with a corrosion preventive-ie EEZOX or any type of good oil/synthetic gun oil-rust inhibitor/preventive.

So as long as I keep it polished, then I shouldnt expect any issues? I have a large jewlers wheel that i polish aluminum parts for different things on and it makes them shine like chrome. Unfortunately, it tends to produce some heat and i’m concerned with ruining the barrel or warping.
It will just polish off. You can use a lights buffing wheel if you like. But the blue is primarily there to protect the component form corrosion.

I polished the barrel on my r8 years ago, just touch it up occasionally with flitz, but there wasnt much blue on it. I was worried i might overheat the birds barrel and wreck a good thing.
