Q:

Bobcat’s energy

Hi,

I have found on FX website:

NOTE: Energy stated in the info is maximum possible energy. Due to differences in regulations the rifle might be set to a lower energy, from 7,5 Joule and up. Contact your local dealer for more information.

The energy limit in my country is 17J. Does that mean I will not achieve higher energy in .25 even with the power adjustement wheel? If not, is there a possiblity to raise the energy by a qualified person if I buy the gun with limited energy? How is the energy limitation implemented? Is it a weaker spring?

Yep ! Double moral flourishes …

Ville sounds like there’s a loop hole in every country.

The power adjuster wheel axle has just tiny holes for those countries where there are regulations on power levels. The “full power wheel” has much bigger hole – at least 3 times the size of the Swedish non-FAC 10J. No one uses the hammer weight since it doesn´t add much of anything except more air consumption.

There are so called “Japan Kit´s” that include the needed parts to get the 10J (or whatever low power level) BobCat – or any other FX gun – upto FAC/Full power. Those are legally sold in Sweden.
This is the funny thing here : Without a FAC you aren´t allowed to own an Airgun over 10 J energy level. It´s perfectly legal to sell and own parts to up them Airguns to their full power. It gets illegal when you install those bits into your AG.

This is the FAC kit they sell for the BC over here : http://luftvapen.e-butiken.se/luftgevar/fx-airguns/tillbehor/japan-kit-till-fx-royal

In addition to Zonk’s reply and according to what I’ve seen on mine and in the exploded views, FX use a combination of techniques to regulate the muzzle energy:
– hammer spring adjuster (the screw that Zonk mentioned), my guess is thickness of this screw so shimming as suggested will have a similar effect
– use of hammer only or hammer + weight
Both see FX Royale drawing, available on FX website

– 3 stage power wheel on the left side of the action, allowing to select different energy levels by selection of different transfer port sizes/diameters (as far as I have understood, not all Bobcats come with the power wheel)
See Verminator drawing, available on FX website

hope that helps a little.

The Bobcat can be adjusted from the rear of the action to either increase or decrease velocity. If you can’t get enough velocity remove screw and add a washer behind spring to increase more pressure on valve.
