Q:

Bolt/Grub Screw Size

Hi, hope this is the right section.

I have a UK Stealth and these are anti-tampered by means of a shear head bolt being used in one of the barrel bush fixing points. If I am able to remove this, what size is the grub screw I need to replace it? In fact a list of the bolt sizes used on these guns would be useful to a newcomer like me.

Thanks in advance.

The Grubs that hold the barrel were sized in Unified Nation Fine
I hope this is right I just found some data indicating 10-32 = 0.190
and 3/16UNF X ? 304 HEX SOCKET GRUBSCREW = 0.1875.
This seems a bit unusual as to sizes. Need to try some samples. if they fit nice and snug I will update this post.

Anti tamper removed today.

Velocette, I am all too aware of the difficulty in broaching the subject on UK forums – I am a member of most of them where I use the same user name.

As for writing to the editor in chief of the 2 UK airgun magazines, rather a waste of time as he is also the chairman of the AMTA.

I have also written fruitlessly to the Home Office about the fact that we can no longer mail/internet order certain parts for our guns and pointing out there is nothing in the Violent Crime Reduction Act that says parts and accessories must be purchased face-to-face. Initially they said they were relying on section 57 of the Firearms Act 1968 for a definition of “air weapon” to include “component parts and accessories” but after I pointed out that that section applied only to section 1 firearms and our sub legal limit airguns are specifically excluded from S1 they went strangely quiet and did not answer any more of my communications.

Life for a shooter in the UK eh? You American chaps don’t know how lucky you are!!

As you struggle to remove the anti-tamper parts,,,which are NOT a legal requirement in the UK,,,remember who is primarily responsible, via the AMTA Ltd,,for their being there. Try writing to the editor of either Airgun magazine or posting on the biggest airgun forum in the UK about this imposition and see the result.Sanctimomious duplicitous gits.

Yep, you are quite right, was getting confused in my head (not difficult!! 😆 ) with the bolt that holds the forend on.

#10-32 set screws should take a 3/32″ allen key not 1/8″

Yes, its imperial.

So, 10-32 then? I know it needs a 1/8″ allen key.

Just lookin now

The US rifles make use of 10-32 bolts (Imperial size). I beleive the UK rifles are make in the same plant as the US rifles in Texas and could possibly use the same size bolts.

I’d wait for confirmation from someone like pablo/langanussen who have English Gunpower’s and have taken them apart before I beleive anything I say on this subject though.
