Q:

Breaking in and Cleaning procedures on a Gladius

I will have my first air rifle in another week or so. Is there a method to be followed in breaking in the barrel. If some one can point me in the right direction it will be appreciated. Also on cleaning do you clean the rifle the same as a powder burner?

For me the Patch Worm is the way to go, does a great job cleaning your barrel. Thanks Sir Ville.

They make it for Lead cleaning and also for Copper Jacket cleaning. It’s the best selling cleaner at Camp Perry during the National Matches here in Ohio.

I personally try to avoid metal brushes, including brass.
Normally, I close the receiver end of the barrel with a felt button lightly soaked with Ballistol oil (load as if it was a pellet and push it all the way in with the pellet probe, past the transfer port, this is to avoid oil running down the transfer port). I then spray some Ballistol down the barrel from the muzzle end and close this end with a felt button, as well.
Let it soak some minutes turning the rifle around from time to time (muzzle end down, then receiver end down, …).
After some time, shoot the felt buttons out and start pulling patches through the barrel using the patchworm or similar cleaning systems. Avoid cleaning rods.
At the end, if you like, you can pull a Ballistol-patch through to have a light coating.
I do not use solvents in an airgun barrel, but that’s personal.

After shooting do you use brass brushes and solvents made for lead removal or is that not a problem in air rifles? I usually finish cleaning in gun powder guns with a patch with a light coat of good quality gun oil is that something recommended?

Don’t use a metal brush on the barrel. Use only patches, the first ones with a solvent like ballistol or WD-40. I would recommend Patchworm. Clean the barrel first thing you do, they are usually very filthy from factory. That’s my tip
