BSA Improved Mdl D 98 years old

The brown truck finally arrived with my newest fix. It made it from Florida to Oregon unscathed and thru the last 98 years fairly well.

From the looks of it, it has never been refinished, someone added target scope bases to it, which probably fit a handmade MVA scope I have that is 23 inches long and a perfect period scope for the gun, it is spring loaded, I just need to reverse the spring to correct the oppsite force involved.

It has 90% wood and would be close to 99 % metal if not for the drilling and tapping job.

I do not have the correct bore size pellets, they need 5.5635 RWS Hobbys, but with CPLHP’s it shoots into 1/2 inch at 12 yards and under two at 42 yards with the stock mounted peep.l The peep is adjustable for windage and elevation and when at it’s max hight, a lower aperture is revelaed for close distance.

I does not like the artillery hold I have read about, and perfers to be held firmly just behind the tap loading lever.

It had the worst trigger I have seen in years, but that screw in front of the trigger guard, is adjusted by a 1/4 inch wrench and it is now one of the best triggers I have seen, I wish all triggers were that easy to work on.

Most shoot at around 600 fps, this one does 500 FPS so I will not be elk hunting with it in the future. 😆 Frankly this is the first springer I have ever shot, the springs seem to be a little dry, and I have no idea what they need, I have read tar and moly grease from BB Pelletiers blog, so I guess I will try that. I made the props in the photo’s so if it needs leather seals, I should be able to do that.
