Q:

BSA R10 with Talon Tunes CF Bottle

So I got yet another CF bottle from Tony. I have these bottles on both of my MCT’s and they really make a difference.

This time, I decided to put one on a BSA R10. There was a bit of initial confusion on my part as to if this bottle would work. I already had a larger 400 CC bottle on my gun, but it was really made the gun heavy. I will admit, I thought it looked pretty good with the bottle and the aftermarket shroud that came with the gun when I bought it used.

In looking around, I discovered that the valve on the stock bottle on the R10 has a thread size of M15x1.5 BUT… the thread size on the larger bottle is M18x1.5 which is the same as the Talon Tunes bottle. Since I already had the larger bottle, there was no need to buy another valve, but I am told that RAW sells them.

I did find that the Talon Tunes tank was a shade bigger diameter than the tank I had on and so while I had already modified my stock for the larger tank, I needed to do just a little bit more work. 10 minutes later with the Dremel and that part was done. I also needed to take off just a touch on the “toast strap” as XTX Air calls it just below the barrel.

The hardest part was removing the valve from my old bottle…. As you can see, I resorted to drastic measures, but it did come off and yes, I buggered it a bit, but it’s well hidden and so not seen when on the gun.

The valve fit perfectly into the Talon Tunes bottle with no issues.

Then simply screw the bottle on and throw the stock back on. Easy peasy. I did note that my shroud no longer fit the gun. The stock shroud fit fine, but it is a bit too long for my tastes. Fortunately, when I bought the gun used, the previous owner put some extra bits that he had apparently 3D printed up for an alternate design on the shroud and after a little work, I was able to hobble something reasonable together that put the total length of the gun at just over 39 inches.

The stock is fairly plain but does have a little figure to it if you hit it just right in the sun. A buddy of mine has a ‘secret squirrel’ oil blend that he makes that did help quite a bit after a rubdown with it.

Thank you, sir… I’d have to agree. Love the way it handles now, too.

I did a bit of scope swapping on it and shot a quick group yesterday…

rob, I think it looks even better now with the CF bottle and shorter shroud!

Nice!!! 😉

Thank you, sir….

These CF bottles should be a must have for any bottle gun I think. As for the R10, I wanted one when they first came out years back, but they had some issues. I think I would have preferred .177, but I picked this one up used with a Huma reg already installed so I’m happy with it. I have it turned down to around 23fpe at the moment. Might think about turning it up a bit, just not sure. I like the shot count. It’s high enough that I dont know exactly what I’m getting, which is a good thing!

I have to say you have some mighty fine air rifles there. The R10 is on my short list for my next PCP. I will have to keep this mod in mind. Thnx!
