Q:

Bullet Options

Hi all,

Well after searching for a while I figured I’d post this question:

What are the bullet/slug options available for the more powerful AirForce guns out there? I am considering going to a longer .257 barrel just for better bullet options but I would like to keep the stock size in order to use pellets as well..

I am familiar with Mr Hollow Point and the Black Mambas, but are there any other options out there perhaps with better ballistics for longer ranges?

Thanks!

So anyway.. The JSBs are too light for the 24″ barrel unless on low power..

I found some other bullets but they are supposed to be .255 — I assume that would be too tight a fit?

Anyone know of any other bullet options or how the ones mentioned group and retain energy at long ranges > 100 yds would be great to hear about…

No it was just a haphazard test…

I haven’t had much time to play with it yet… I used JSB Exacts at 25.4gr.. I don’t think those numbers represent the max potential of the gun… It also seemed to shoot harder as the PSI went down from 3000..

Is this with the Mamba’s? Ring count? Weight?

KnifeMaker

It’s a TalonP just got it for X-Mas.

She’s showing around 82+ FPE on a used chrony with a 24″ barrel from my buddy..bone stock other than that and a home-made shoulder stock…

I haven’t fully tested her out yet..not sure what the best fill pressure and power setting is yet..

There’s so many add ons possible it blows the mind..and wallet..

My .257 shoots 74 gr at 1070-1080 fps and will do 1100 fps if I raise the fill pressure. I have 33″ barrel.

Jerry’s slugs work good. I shoot them out of my .25 and they shoot far. I don’t know what fps you are shooting at?

I think I had read about your .257

Sounds like she’s shooting well for you…

That valve was what I had been considering too…and the standard set of accompanying mods..

This is still a ways off though as money is hard to come by these days..

In the meantime I’m still looking for longer range ammo that will retain it’s energy longer downrange. I guess so far the mambas are the best option…but I’d think that with a round nose they’d retain more energy longer but not sure how much..

Jerry makes the mamba’s.

What valve are you going to use?

My .257 ‘s breech is .375″ and I use .308 valve with different stem. Hole in the stem is .280″. Stock stem is .250″ OD and .217″ ID

With 30″ barrel you might get 930 fps

26 5/8″ barrel with stock valve and a different stem was able to get 910 fps. This was a .375″ barrel. Then put new valve on and now it is shooting 1010 fps.

What mods are needed for the breech? .257 is just a hair bigger..

No stock valve or anything else would be used and I’d want at least a 30 inch barrel for that..

Aren’t Jerry’s like the Mambas?

I’d think better ballistics would be possible..

For .257 you will have to go to RJ Porter.

Jerry has 3 sizes of .25 slugs 6,7, and 9 rings.

If your not going to do a complete .257(valve and breech) stay with .25. The condor valve won’t push a .257 as fast as it will push a 7 ring.
