Burris Signature Zee rings on R3 – Extreme cant fix

My Matador came in this last shipment and as I discovered it has a pretty extreme cant built into the scope rail.

I was able to zero it in with my SWFA SS Medium Rings, but I had to use ALL of my elevation adjustment on my Hawke Tactical 6.5-20×42
I am not a big fan of running scopes on the outer edges of the adjustment.

One solution is to shim your existing rings, but that is getto way of doing it.

I think problem should be fixed correctly and you will avoid damage to your scope this way.

So I have decided to go ahead and go for Burris Signature Zee Extra High rings. Height wise wise they are between Med and High SWFA SS Rings.

These rings have inserts to give you + or – 10MOA for each ring. So you can get up to 20moa adjustment added to your scope.

So because my scope now is looking down too much, I added +10MOA to Front ring and -10MOA to Rear ring.

Results: AWESOME! Now my scope operates in happy adjustment range! :4:

Quality of the rings is outstanding. They are very well built. Only downside is they are about $60.

Thank you for the in depth explanation. I kind of figured that position will depend on how far rings are apart, but that -/+ 10 on inserts threw me off 💡

My Hawke didnt have any issues at all operating at the max elevation, but I just didnt like the idea of running scope like that.

But these rings are really amazing!

How many MOA of adjustment does your Hawke have? Just curious.

Also, just an FYI about the Burris Signature Zee rings & offset inserts…

The +/-10 and +/-20 markings on the Signature Zee rings indicate the thickness difference in thousands of an inch; the +/- 10 inserts are .010″ different in thickness and the +/- 20 inserts (available for 1″ tube only) are .020″ different in thickness.

The actual angle they will move the scope is a function of ring spacing; the closer the rings the greater the angle change and the further apart the rings the lesser the angle change.

Over 4.25″ center to center ring spacing running the 10 offset inserts in both the front and rear rings clocked for only elevation change will result in a 16.9″ shift at 100Y (8.45″ shift at 50Y) which is about 16.1MOA.

I do agree that they are the best thing going if you need to shift your scope around… shimming rings is not the correct solution and subjects the scope tube to bending & binding. No such worries with the Burris rings & inserts.

On my R3 with a Bushnell 3-12 x 44 FFP scope using Signature Zee rings with 0 offset (straight) inserts I have 3.5 mils down and 17.5 mils of up elevation left at a 50Y zero. I find this perfect as this leaves plenty of elevation left for long range shots. However, the Bushnell I’m using doesn’t suffer from tracking problems, severely limited windage, or image vignetting like some scopes do when the elevation is adjusted near one extreme. If your scope has mechanical or optical problems near the extremes of elevation travel or has limited elevation adjustment I can see the cant in the R3 rail causing problems.

You are correct. I was able to get about 8-9 additional clicks by removing torque nut/moderator and moving a barrel a bit and re torquing. But that was not enough to fix the issue.

Burris rings fixed it perfectly!

For your information, I just finished my barrel assembly work Yesterday, I gained another 9-click to ease this feature(or issue), and non-even space shown in following picture(dated in Feb) becomes even, I will post an updated photo when I got a time.

On my Haley 257 Scandalous, with the two barrels, the 1-10 and 1-14 , I had a windage difference of 30 MOA. However I was able to adjust it to 45 minutes off of Left extreme with one barrel and 45 minutes bottom with the other barrel with the Burris Signature rings.
