Q:

Butlers creek waste of money

Hi
I don’t know about your experience, however, i went through 2 sets of butler creek scope covers (both front and back) and manage to break all of them in two separate hunting occasions.
The scope is a bushnell legend

I carry the matador with a single sling (one point attachment), keeping the gun in front of me, quite effective for quick aiming.
when walking the covers flip open (the closing mechanism is a joke) and they snap once catching my body.
The plastic flip cover is made to crack, very smart indeed.
If you are planning to buy a scope cover steer clear from this brand, unless you plan to keep your gun in your gun cabinet.

Just thought to share, if you have scope covers that last more than a day, please share.

I’ve had my first set of Butler Creek flip ups for about a month. I put them on my Condor mounted AF 4-16x scope to replace the factory bikini style covers. I love the flip ups, and will buy them for all my future scopes. They are fragile, but serve admirably given their cost. They are not mil spec, but they don’t claim to be…. 😎

quote yoda:

The leupolds are great.
Machined aluminium i think.
However they screw on the leupold scopes only.
Another pitiful feature of the butlers is when the front one flips open, it doesn’t do it all the way (270 degrees) but just slightly more than 180.
So you always have that flipping lid on your eyesight.
What a useless piece of junk.

i have more than i care to admit to and really rate the Hawke tac scopes, but i detest thier screw on caps, every time i screw the fukker back on a bloody squirrel or rabbit shows up !!!, my other scopes are Bushnell’s and im for ever losing the caps for them in the field 😕

so any alternative recommendation to the butlers ? i have six plus pairs and have had one failure in the last couple of years when i placed a rifle down with a open cap, im more cautious now but open to suggestions to a more robust solution 😎

I broke 2 sets of those Butler Creek caps, They are Shit! When I posted about this a while back a bunch of people argued how great they were and howI must have abused them. They are nothing but cheaply made chinese plastic garbage 😡 I have got better quality things out of Gumball machine.

The flip cap hinge is a joke, i mean, the quality you expect from something you find inside a cereal box, no kidding.
The pin that makes the hinge slides out with use.
It would be fair if it would cost 1$, no more.

The quality of the Butler Creek flip caps really went downhill a couple years ago when they moved production out of the USA and went overseas. The current blend of plastic is far more brittle than the old stuff.

The new Tenebraex flip caps are quite durable but they aren’t available in many sizes yet.

I carry mine same way with single point. I shoot right handed but am left eye dominant so I have rear scope cover open up sideways to partially block left eye so I can shoot both eyes open and still have quick target acquisition through right eye. I have had to leave rear cap closed while carrying as I have over bent cover past 90*ish point. I’m going to bond a small block on cap base so cover won’t over extend. Overall for price the are good deal caps.

Do a search, i have posted pics some time ago, sorry cannt upload them now!

Single sling…please I would like to see a pic of this setup

thanks

I had some cheap scope cap that came with a centerpoint, the little stud, that holds it in place fell out. I put a panel nail in its place and bent the nail, then cut off the excess, it will not come apart again. The cap has popped off a few times, I’m gonna have to think of something to keep it in place. I’m thinking a little silicon sealant…that way I can remove it with a fingernail if need be. Lost it once..took an hour to find.
