Caldwell magnum field pod
Just wondering if anyone has tried these? How steady are they? How easy to set up and use? Are they just good for targets or would they be ok in a hunting scenario?

Yeah i was thinking about grabbing one too. I don’t have an “official” rest so far as I shoot off Bags+Bipod combo usually. So to pair that with a portable (has a carry strap) field rest that can be used while prone, sitting, or standing seemed to fit the bill perfectly for me. I just wanted to make sure it was sturdy and “accurate” enough to shoot off compared to a regular caldwell rest such as a Lead Sled or something similar.
Was going to pick one up from Amazon and if it didn’t work out well for me, could always exchange for a real rest. But the best part for *me* is that in my backyard I don’t have a good table/bench to setup a bipod/bag rest so this would be very very useful and is just a HUGE plus that I can fold it up and carry with me in the field if needed. I’m going to get one once I recover from my Edgun and Hawke spending “disease’ 🙂

Must’ve missed your post. Yes, I have one of these and am quite fond of it. On severely uneven terrain, you can get a pretty good rest setup. Stable enough to get one hole groups with a Cricket .25 at 40 yds., maybe more. A bit awkward at first, but once you use one a bit, it’s quick and easy.
Yes, it’s great for hunting if you are post-and-wait. Short hikes won’t be an issue, but it’ll get awkward/heavy if you’re covering a 1/2 mile or more. Pans and tilts great. The best part is it can be setup from prone to standing, but is made for sitting upright or standing.

It’s hard to beat a proper bench rest, so this rest is not designed for tournament accuracy. It’s a great combination of rapid target acquisition and stability. The metal-tipped legs are very adjustable in all directions, making this tripod perfect for my needs on steep slopes, muddy ground and tight areas.
Keep in mind those metal tips make it unsuitable for pavement, rock faces and any solid, smooth surface. The spread of the legs is set by the tripod’s “feet” digging in or lodging in rocky terrain.
You may want to velcro/strap your gun in place while using this, especially if you take your hands off it; it’s easy to knock a gun over/out of the mounts if you fumble.
