Q:

Can a Condor do it?

Hi guys,

Since I got my first Condor, I’ve been trying to achieve 100fpe in .22. That has fallen by the wayside as with the limited weight of pellets available in South Africa in .22 it isn’t achievable.
My new goal is 80fpe, I’ve managed 66fpe with 30gr Piledrivers in a custom barrel with excellent accuracy. And with 37,5gr Daystate Rangemasters I could push the ME to 72fpe but accuracy wasn’t very good with a loopy trajectory.

Now it seems that I’ll be able to lay my grubby paws on 32gr Eunjins. What I want to know is, does n stock Condor have the ability to push a 32gr pellet at around 1050-1060fps in a clean barrel with lubed pellets?
If not, what mods would I need to do to achieve this level of power?

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards Nick.

Why not .25? 100 fpe is easy in .25

Here in SA, we’re restricted to .22. Any larger calibre requires a Fire Arms Licence which is a nightmare to go through and even then you’re not guaranteed that you’ll get it.

Just for interest, this is group of 4 shots done 180yrds with 30gr Piledrivers in an Airvolution barrel. My finger is pointing at 2 shots ontop of each other. The group was done with a light breeze coming off the mountain from left to right.
My Condor was doing 66fpe.

The barrel is an Airvolution barrel, unchoked with conventional rifling. I suspect the bore is slightly larger-minutely larger. I told him what I wanted and he built a barrel for my purpose. Unfortunately I sold it with my first Condor but I’ve ordered another. Looking forward to getting it.

So what kind of bbl. “ARE” you using the PD’s in. Manufacture? Twist? Chocked-un-chocked???

We want to Know! 😉

I was getting 77 FPE with my old condor BUT it would hit what I was aiming at over 50 FPE LOL

What ammo were you using to get to that power level? Any other mods done?

how much are the piledrivers in .22 and what website do you buy them from???

Here in SA we buy them at most ‘gunshops’ over the counter, I hate buying online. In your currency it’ll be roughly $10/pack of 100. Bloody expensive. The Jsb 25gr Monsters are a good second option at roughly $12/200 pack. I’m after the weight and shooting them in a custom barrel. Apparently the Piledrivers don’t work in LW barrels that the Condors come std with.

Thanx for the input guys, so it seems it can be done but accuracy will probably suffer. The Piledriver is a completely different pellet to the std skirted/Diabolo pellets. I’m going to see how they perform when pushed as hard as possible.

Accuracy is the main ingredient so all that power will mean very little if I can’t hit the target.

Much appreciated.

Eunjin heavies. I think they were 32grn . I did have a heavier hammer that was 115 grams. I forgot about that. Only problem is it wasnt that accurate

Pull the valve polish the valve make the valve ports in valve stem a little bigger and loosen the valve spring nut a bit till u can compress the valve easily with ur fingers. That should do the trick. Ive been down that road and did it. My 22 condor could make 94fpe.

What were you shooting rj? Daystate bullets?

Many moons ago i bought a Talon 22. Then i got a 24″ 22 cal barrel with a condor bottle and it could push 28 gr Eun Jins at 1075 FPS. A lot of things can be done to a Airforce gun but it takes a crap load of playing around with dimensions.

What boggles me though is that you are shooting 30 gr PileDrivers with excellent accuracy and 66 FPE! You have 3 GREAT things right there and you shouldn’t look past what you already have. Good bullet with high BC, great groups and plenty of power to kill big animals. I mean, 66 FPE vs 80 FPE = 14 FPE!

Now you wanna go to Eun Jins? I would for sure stick with the pile drivers and the great accuracy and the 66+ FPE.
