Can anyone tell me how to measure top hat?
I am trying to find the “sweet spot” for my 24″ condor .22 and I may have found the start pressure that it likes, but I am open to advice and suggestions from the airforce masters!
This is the best group I shot with my condor. When I lowered my start pressure from 2800 to 2600 psi, my groups improved slightly. I have my powerwheel on 3.5, 2. I am “condor challenged” so I don’t know exactly how to check the tophat adjustment. If anyone can lend a helping hand I would surely appreciate your continuing education of 80 Grit in Condor 101.
I used EJ’s 28.4 @ 20 yards. The second group was as tight as the first, until shot 5 opened up a bit to produce a 1/2″ group.
I don’t have a digital gauge to measure ctc, but group 1 was a 1/4″ if not better.
Next week I will crony at these settings to see what numbers I come up with. Please advise on checking the top hat and I thank you in advance for your assistance.

Thanks for all the info. I will mess around with it some more next week. I am really happy with the accuracy, and I don’t even know if I would want to mess with the top hat, I will crony it and then post results and then go from there. Good night! Get a small set of feeler guages probably $6 and you can mix and match to get your measurement. One thing I learned is everyones sweet spot seems to be different. I used a chrono and got my shooting to about 1035 with extra heavy kodiacs. Not very scientific but it made me happy. 😆
My original TalonSS bottle was 0.100″, a extra bottle I bought separately was set at 0.85″, AF adjusts the TH to take out all the play in the breach, has nothing to do with power or air use… 😉

Okay, a dime and a penny seem to be the best fit, although two dimes fits pretty good as well, but I’d say a dime and a penny. Can anyone measure that for me, please? Thanks synopsys ❗

Not as accurate, but if you’ve got a micrometer you can use something thin… sheet metal, folded aluminum foil, etc… fold it to desired thickness, get a measurement on it and use it as a spacer.
