Can Talon SS hold up?!
Hey fellas! New guy here. I’m really looking at getting into a .22 Talon ss for my first pcp. What I’m wondering is can this gun, completely stock, hold its own on squirrels at 50 to 60 yards? I have a Gamo viper .177 right now that is tuned and pretty good but I want to try my hand at a recoiless rifle, & something with a little more punch. I was looking at the condor and an Evanix AR6 but I need something alittle more quiet. Figured I’d ask in this forum to see what you guys think!

When my TS was stock last year I was bagging squirrels at 45 yards every single time with Kodiaks. 25 ft/lbs was PLENTY and there was many de-brained squirrels.
50 yard shots are not difficult with the right conditions and practice. (IMO)
I have actually taken 1 squirrel at 72 yards with the gun stock. It was a “top of the head” shot and required a finishing round but he was planted and could go no where. Fuse box was off but engine was still running. The shot was also with the bi-pod on a bench.
I’ve smoked many TRs at 70 yards with my TSS.
And at 50 yards I get pass throughs! AND, mine’s *only* pushing 20 fpe. I’m shooting 15.9 JSB Jumbos.
No reason to go for HUGE velocity.
Consitency = Accuracy, and Accuracy = A pile ‘o TRs!

I suggest you start out with a stock unit. I like mine just fine in stock form. I recently switched from 22cal to 177 just to reduce power, and it’s fine for me as I don’t need a lot of power for what I’m doing right now. I also like to use CO2 in mine. But with 22cal and air, you’ll have plenty of power.
Whoa! 70 yards with an ss? That’s pretty good. But then again I’m only used to shooting a Gamo .177 at 40, maybe 50 yards Max on a still day. Have you made any modifications to your rifle or still stock?
Nope, it’s stock aside from a Don G shroud and a lot of tweaking to get it shooting consistently.
I shoot a lot. Both air guns and powder burners. I shoot primarily long range in several disciplines. I shoot big bore at 500 yards and have lately (over the last few years) taken a shine to .17 HMR and Mach 2 shooting. Plenty a vermin has gone down @ 200 yards with a well placed shot with my HMRs. The .223s sit lonely in the safe as of late… So, 70 yards? With a nice shooting .22 PCP? It’s fun!! A little more challenging with my 20 fpe TSS than my Rapid, but that’s what makes it good time!
I also shoot FT and a .177 beyond 55 yards is a tough shot. There’s not enough pellet weight to buck the wind, and a diminishing power and trajectory curve is not enough to smoke critters at those ranges.
I started shooting an R9 in .177 about twelve years ago and probably have run 50,000 rounds through that gun alone. Very nice shooting springer, but will not compare to a decent PCP in .22 in the pest arena at farther ranges.

It can put them out there okay, but not great. It only has a 12″ barrel, and velocity would be around 800fps w/mid weight dome pellets. If you zero it for that range, I think you would get about 50% of your shots. Talon SS is a take-down rifle which would be super handy for your uses.
Can’t think of anything it the price range that would be better tho. That FX Solo use to be a good choice at nearly 30fpe and shrouded, it woulda been perfect. You can always shop used market, which is full of great deals thanks to the economy.
Yeah, unfortunately sound is a big factor for my needs, otherwise I would just go for the condor for the power. I do also want to be able to put this thing in a back pack though so I can take with me places way out in the woods. In the woods fellas- that’s where its at!
You have a choice to make, you will want to make it quieter, which you could do cheaply if you so desired, I don’t think you can do that with the Evanix.

I don’t have an airforce gun yet but it’s winter now so I just sit in my shed and shoot english sparrows on my bird feeder 10 yards away.
