Gun looks a bit similar to this one I fave here, thats me about 1987, the gun has been stolen but I think it was a Deutsche Waffen Firma, or Deutsche Waffen Werke or something similar. Definetely German though.
This one was .177 and shot much harder than the BSA Meteor I had back then as well. Had to get my Grandpa to cock it for me though.

Is that from the Civil War?
couldnt tell ya. is that lever on the side the loading port? looks like it is a round baller for the ammo. interesting, hope you find out what/who/where/why and how
