K i have decided that one of these is gonna be my next rifle unless they are a hunk of korean junk…I ve done some looking else where and waht to hear what any one here who may have one has to say good,bad or indefferant….thanx……mmmmmm .45cal

You can use it to hunt all kind of small/mid/large games, how about size of buffalo?
I figure the wait time is several years…..thought that was something people should know when considering one. Price, too (ouch!). My favorite gun of Gary’s is a .25 that I believe he made for his wife.

I just let peoples to know, the 87 cal is the biggest today, that was all and I properly never get that big boy anyway, it’s a mice looking gun though 😆 😆 😆
For serious hunting, .45 and .50 is best, 308 is good for plinking and small games hunting.
I shoot .308, 9mm & .45…the Haley is a .45 with a .452 bore
also have a Perotti .32 Benji pump rifle that will do around 700FPS on a dozen or more strokes
Currently piecing together another .308 QB and a 9mm Condor
Building a .45 or .50 is problematic right now, no breeches being sold
Grant Stace is planning to do a small run a special big bore breeches for folks
Another route you can go is find an old Cap-Chur tranquilzer dart gun of Auction Arms or GunStroker. Those are rifled .50 CO2 guns but not much power to speak of. The saving glory to the is they were built on the Crosman 160 which means you can jugle parts around to build a PCP .50 off them.
If one was to go that route I would retain the bolt and the side cocker two position striker and build a custom breech off of DOM thick wall tubing then use a custom stainless QB length pressure tube with a highly modded disco valve.
I suppose one could retain the stock one piece .50 breech and barrel however these were designed for the Cap Chur darts and require pulling the bolt fully out of the rifle to load.
AF can be built in a variety of Big Bores as well…308, 9mm, .45 and even .50 but you need a big bore valve, breech, hammer in addition to the barrel.

accuracy? done a few cloverleafs at 75 yards off the bench with round balls but these are by no means 10M guns.
Cost is variable depending on configuartion…figure $600.00+

What Cal. Are you shooting? And thanx for the sources I would rather build than buy but I want a .45 since I want to be able to take an elk and since most of ours dress down to 175-210 I wanna make shure that as long as I place it into the boiler room it will do the rest..

Jack’s work is very clean and rather reasonable. I bought this rifle from him last year for $650.00 Was his personal gun.
Barnes’ makes some wild stuff but its all a bit too far out there for my tastes not to mention the line is long and the prices extremely steep contrasted to what Dennis or Jack charge for their rifles.
Most of us who are in to Big Bore are not in to doing the review thing.
Lots of reviews on the handfull of production guns but the craftsman built ones can vary a bit depending on how the customer desires them configured.
For example this Haley is a .452 and has a shorter barrel than his powerhouse JackHammer model. DAQs can vary a bit as well and Barnes’ creations are even more individual
You guys haven’t seen an ugly 909 until you’ve seen mine! It is pretty accurate, though.
The Korean guns are ok with a power tune but to my eyes they are ugly as hell with their flaky looking cast in engraving. The Dragon looks a bit better but is rather low powered unless hopped up quite a bit.

Get a Cothran machine stainless Disco tube, a B&A max flo Disco valve and whatever in Crosman parts with a Abernathy or whoever custom stock
.308s are also readily built on QB78 breeches
I feel the same about the appearance of the 909’s and would like more info on jack’s setup….cost ,accuracy, ect.. also where can I source the parts you are referring too

Have you done a comprehensive write-up somewhere on your Haley gun? Not enough in-depth reviews on bigbores for the number that are out there.

That’s actually the regular Justice, the Chief Justice has all the aluminum bits anodized black and has a better looking cocking handle.
The Justice is an .87 smoothbore that can shoot accurately out to 100 yards. Accurate being defined here as hitting a 4″ diameter kill zone. The gun can also be loaded with shot. Rifle inserts have been made for the Justice series from .32 to .58.
I expect you could take any North American game with this gun.
This is clearly diverging from the original post though so, sorry, just wanted to clear some things up.
I would recommend the .45 over the .50 for a commercial airgun. The 909 series does not have the greatest barrel but it has a lot more power and even more power potential with tuning than the Dragon Slayer .50. Further, there are much better slug choices available for the .45. There are numerous casters making soft lead .45s that are good performers as well as a couple decent commercial alternatives. The DS .50 on the other hand only shoots .495 round ball well. It has an actual bore of .491 so slugs made for .50 muzzle loaders won’t work as they are generally around .501 and that’s too big to size down. There are a couple custom slugs available properly sized for the DS but you really need a power tune to use them.
The .308 is a good choice if you don’t need to sling the bigger and more expensive lead. There are lots of rounds in many styles available from casters on the net. There are plenty of commercial options too but most are hard cast and thus not the best choice for an airgun.

Just what is it that you want to do with the gun? What’s the alrgest animal you will be hunting with it?
.45, and .32/.308 would cover everything with no compromises.
Just buy a SamYang .454 (2tube for versatility, 909S for strictly hunting), then buy a .308 barrel to swap onto it for longer-range shooting. That’s what I’m doing.
If you want the biggest and the greatest, try the “Chief Justice 87 Cal” made by Gary.

Did you get the impression that I have one on order? I don’t……..to rich for my blood.
I’ve waited about 3 years for a $1500 dog in the past, and nearly had a conniption, but I didn’t know it would take that long from the onset….I believe Gary tells you from the start it will be a few years. For some reason, I thought Jerry posted awhile back that Barnes had stopped taking orders indefinitely.
Sure wouldn’t mind having that .25 Barnes made for his wife, though.
