cheap and easy ballistics gel

I have seen several ballistic tests of both penetration and expansion, but most were done using duct seal. The problem with that is that the duct seal is very dense causing flattened or separated pellets. Ballistics gel is much more accurate, but it can be difficult to make in large batches, and you may have over penetration. If you are interested in making it there is a very good recipe on myscienceproject.org, just a few tips I have learned. Use COLD water to hydrate the gelatin granules, add the gelatin very slowly, if too much is added at once it will sink incasing nonhydrated gelatin in a casing, it just makes things a lot harder. The gelatin will foam some, you will just need to melt it later slowly stirring until the bubbles are gone, than allow to set. you can heat it in the microwave, in a pan, or a double boiler, just don’t let it get to 130 degrees Fahrenheit or it will not be accurate. One cup of water to one ounce of knox unflavored gelatin. One box is enough to make two quarts of gel. [/img]
