Q:

Cheap "speed loader" for my Cricket mags. W/pic

I know this idea is nothing new and far from revolutionary, but I’m out shooting today and thought I’d share.
It’s just a simple tube with a pull out end cap. I think it had beads for arts n crafts or maybe pencil lead refills for mechanical pencils.. Can’t remember. They’re basically used for a bunch of stuff and aren’t hard to find. It doesn’t necessarily speed up the reloading process over all, but it’s nice to have it loaded up sitting in the kit for when I’m feeling lazy about loading another mag. The main thing I use it for is- I go through a new tin of Predator Polymag .25s, and sort out the most consistent, best pellets. I take the best of the best and put them in the tube so when I’m about to go hunting I know to load my mag with the Preds in the tube for best possible accuracy. Kind of a pointless post, but I’m bored at the moment and thought I’d share!

I suppose I could try it myself just as easy as asking here but would that method work with Polymags with their polymer tips?

Not as easier as domed pellets, it takes more pushing them down and re-shaking.

I agree Awny, lately what I have been doing is holding the mag over the tin of pellets and just grab a handful and dump it on top. It works 99.999% of the time, just like birth control.

The cheapest and fastest is the palm as master Ernest demonstrated. I can do it in under 5 seconds with 22 pellets. (with the 177 some pellets fall through the center costing me a valuable few seconds to recover).

Hey Haggard616,
Check out the following video by Ernest Rowe. He has a very clever speed loader that can never get lost and it has many uses. Hope this helps.

Since you replied so gratefully, I’ll give you more info.

Use the Pepper shaker only, I don’t trust the salt one it may cause the mag to corrode.
You can fill it with 6 mag maximum and there will be a little extra room to spare.
So I cut off about 1/4″ to make all 6 fit snugly with the inside of the cap and bottom of the shaker padded with the white foam padding from the JSB pellet tins.
You can cut yours to fit the 3 mags only and make allowance for the foam padding if you don’t like it jiggling around when woods waking.

I also use Ploy and metal mags, but only under 50 yards or so, I mainly use JSB domes. So I have a 7th mag that’s filled with Ploys and which I keep separately in this case. It’s a good fit for one mag only and can be foam padded as well.

Man I’m glad I posted.. Your pepper shaker idea is genius. I have a bunch of those lying around and I have three mags for my Cricket that I always keep loaded with Predators but I leave the extra mags at the vehicle because I don’t like putting them in my pocket with the Predator plastic tips sticking out ever so slightly past the mag I feel they could rub or catch against my pocket and damage the pellets.. I know that’s probably just paranoia, but now I can load em all up and store them in the pepper shaker tube in my pocket. Thanks !!

Hi Haggard616,

Cool, thanks for sharing and adding new ways to load the mags !

Not to out do ya in anyway, but if you have just a few mags to load this is a good video on another fast way also https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rO1qkbHqhUw

If you have a lot of mags to load this is my shaker speed loader if you and others haven’t seen it already.
It takes a minute from inserting the first empty mag into the speed loader, to all 6 filled mags are inside of the pepper shaker.
The white cylinder thing with bbs on top is to seat the pellet mid way into the mags after speed loading. This ones for my .177 cal all other calibers don’t need this.
