Q:

Chrony on the way

I ordered a chrony today 😎 Its the red alpha model. Do you guys think it will work indoors with two 100 watt bulbs about 3 feet above it?

No I got mine from pyramid.

I’m going to try some shot strings of 5 or so for each power wheel setting and refill the tank after each string to get an idea where i hit max velocity then do some fine tuning from there. Good thing I stocked up on pellets! 😈

I think my favorite pellet so far is the H&N Baracuda Match .22 Cal, 21.14 Grains. The 18.1 JSB’s are right there though. kind of a toss up for me

I hear ya !! For me, the TSS is THE GUN TO HAVE !!! I love mine!!
Listen,, if you’ll take more than 1 shot at each PW setting , I think you’ll find you actually are getting higher numbers at each setting..I think it even says something about that in the owner’s manual…I know when I change power settings, the first shot after changing is NOT what gun will actually shoot at the new setting…..the shot string that came with mine, showed 15.9 JSB’s (5 shots) doing 850fps…..the PW was set at 7.8… did you get a shot string with yours? you should have….I think it’s part of the deal….did you buy from AOA??
One more thing…after I’d run 500-600 pellets through it, it started shooting faster/smoother/ more accurately….if you haven’t already, run a couple of new, dry patches through the barrel…mine was WAY dirty after like 50 rounds. FWIW…mine like TWO pellets (for every day shooting/plinking) ….Crosman 14.3 ultra magnums and JSB 14.3 Jumbo Express
When I want to kill something then I use H&N 18.21gr Crow Magnums. or get really serious and use the JSB Match Exact Jumbo Monster 25.4 they’re AWESOME 😀 😀

Chrony got here today and works great with my home made indoor lighting. The light bulbs were the most expensive part LOL.

Anyway my numbers were better than I was expecting. I took 10 shots at different PW settings just to get an idea where it was shooting at each level. They are as follows, with 18.1gr JSB’s and start pressure of 2600psi in my 22 cal Talon SS 12″ barrel.

1) Power wheel at 0 – 626.9fps
2) PW 1-1 – 733.9fps
3) PW 2-1 – 751.4fps
4) PW 3-1 – 755.1fps
5) PW 4-1 – 767fps
6) PW 5-1 – 763.5fps
7) PW 6-1 – 766.5fps
8) PW 7-1 – 761.6fps
9) PW 8-1 – 765.5fps
10) PW 9-1 – 759.4fps

x2 what Packrat said about the tape on the rods.
Don’t let a powder burner shot across your chrony at close range. The burning powder spray will put marks on the front of your chrony.
I can’t speak about indoor shooting but bright sunny blue skys are the enemy. For outdoors get in the shade or make a white plastic bag canopy shade.
I tried the 2 9 LED flashlight mounted on the sky screens and they DID NOT WORK FOR ME OUTDOORS. They produce a spot of light that is to narrow.
I bought the new Chrony LED lights that are 2 red LED BAR lights maybe 6″ long and still had to shade the sensors from the bright sun light outdoors.
The printer gives you a permanent record with calculations of highest, lowest, average, Standard Deviation and shot count. With the printer you can print out continuous shots but the Alpha Chrony will only calculate the results for the last 32 shots. The rods help you sight the chrony on the target which will improve accuracy of readings.

I have 100 watt light bulbs in the light on my ceiling right above my desk, thats why I was asking if that would be enough.

Ill have to go to lowes this weekend and get some fixtures. looks easy enough 😀

GEEEEZ …ANOTHER case of “not reading the directions”,,,where the heck did you came up with 100 watt light bulbs???
You need 2 40 watt light bulbs, LIKE IT SAYS IN THE DIRECTIONS..mount them on top of the skyscreens and it will work just fine.

All the parts are from a Lowe’s hardware store,,total cost was like $8.00..been using this setup for like 3 months or so…works just fine!!! hope this helps..
ps..please read the directions 😀
BTW..my chrony is the Alpha model also….I like it a LOT ..i also bought the printer…a must have for gauging the effect of any/all mods that you do..you’ll wish to hell you’d bought it years ago…hint….go get some BIGGER rolls of paper,,the one that come on it is like only 2 feet long..and PUT THE TAPE MARKERS on the rods that hold up skyscreens (covered in the DIRECTIONS)….it will help you to NOT shoot your chrony…like some of us have done 😳 😳 😳 😳

Yeah I wish places like pyramid would post the velocities they advertise with the pellet used, or even better just show max fpe using a mid weight pellet.

Uh oh….

Two enemies of the airgunner….

chrony
rangefinder

With the chrony, some folks find out that their ‘1200fps’ airgun is only shooting 850fps… and with the rangefinder, they find their ’50 yard groups’ are only 20 yards…. 😆 😆

but to your question. I’ve had good luck with a couple of small lightbulbs like on a small aquarium. Not florescent lights though…. just rig these to your sunshades and you are good to go.

Someone figured out recently that (I think) a LED flashlight above each screen worked well.

Can someone verify that?
