Q:

clean barrel on 22 and 25 ?

How often do you clean the barrels on your Crickets , I have a 22 and a 25 and both are shooting a little sloppy ,
I got well over 1000 shots out of both guns, Now I did not set down on my shooting bench , I shot off a stick like tripod, (Camera tripod) pretty close to off hand shooting ,
My 25 Cricket was shooting pretty sloppy… I will clean them and repeat the test,
All targets are 14 shot at 38 yards, Stick shooting
Left was Marauder 25 , Jsb at 25 gr, Middle was 22 Cricket JSB 18.13 gr , right and below was 25 Cricket JSB 25 gr Top with no shots was going to be for my Crossman 760 but I ran out of time.

I use to like the Crown Saver pull through.

But I did a simple test and cleaned it with the Crown Saver until the patches came out clean.
Then re-cleaned it with the Patch Worm right after, boy it was still very dirty ! 😯

The way I clean with the Patch Worm:

Gun upside down or on its side.
Run wet Ballistol patches through twice, let it sit for 30 minutes.
Run one dry patch through.
Run wet Ballistol felt button through, let sit again for 15 minutes.
Run the same wet felt button through again.
Run dry patches through until running clean.
Dry fire once.

These barrels need to be clean to shoot the best. The .25 gets dirty fast being the bore has much more area to rub against the bigger pellet. Or so i think anyways ..

Wow, after 3 shots the 22 cricket seems to be back to zero, Or at least spinning the quarter size spinners at 38 yards,
I have not shot the 25 since cleaninig, Not yet anyway, :smilen: :smilen: Oh I am shooting in the rain . Well the pellet is any way, I am in the house warm and dry.

Looks like I need
to order a patch worm kit,
Cleaned the Crickets, The 25 was very dirty took five patches to come clean, The 22 was clean after the second patch, Used Ballistol,
After the barrels are clean and dry I run a patch with a very small amount of Dri Slide on it, Then let it dry for a few hours…
It just puts a small dry coating of molybdenum disulfide….

Yep! One of the great attributes is that you can easily pack it down in your pocket together with a couple of patches (oiled and dry) and have it with you all over.

quote Sir Ville:

The PatchWorm is a thing of beauty. I use them on all my guns, powder and air.
Crickets (all that i´ve owned) gunk up pretty fast and the groups open up. The bigger the cal the faster this happens. My .25´s needed cleaning after 150 – 160 shots.
It takes 1/2 – 1 mag after the barrel is cleaned before your rifle groups well again. Polish the barrel , properly , and it will take more shots between cleanings and will be easier to clean too.

Same for me! I take mine with me along with wetted patches if I’m doing a lot of shooting.

Dave

Just ordered the patch worm, thanks for he tip.

Yes, I like the idea that it cleans all the way into the corner of the grooves faster and better than the common pull through. The plan felt buttons are great too.

I clean mine after every tin, 500 pellets. Only takes a few minutes and your good to go again. I use the Patch Worm suggested by Ole Ville himself.
