Q:

Cleaning the Benjamin Marauder

Good evening all 🙂

I currently own a Benjamin Marauder .25 – Wood stock.
Love it, and wouldn’t part with it!

Its only until recently iv been back on my feet and want to use the rifle again and figured id clean it….. well, how?

Iv been reading ALLOT! (before you tell me to go do my research) and there are many answers, but if im going to find a honest one, its on TT.

So please do tell me, how do you clean your Mrod? What oil do you use? when do you clean it/how often?
What do you use to treat the wood stock?

Any info you can give is going to go with the rest until im sure what id like to do.

Thanks in advance to who posts.

Don’t clean it unless it get inaccurate! I have one that shot H&N crows in a two inch group at 50 yards. I cleaned it and I could never get the that group again. I have to change to JSB’s.

quote shanepheonix:

clp wiped completely clean 5yrs old shoots like a dream still

Clp is the key with these marauders!!

I have a synthetic stock so wood does not apply to me; however, for barrel cleaning its a good idea to clean around 200 shots.
Two passes of wd40 with dual patch will do and one pass with Remington remoil. Don’t want to take everything out of the barrel and re-cure again.

That should keep you accurate for a very long time.

I have 2 M-Rods, .22&.25! I wipe down ALL of my guns with a silicone gun cloth followed by a micro-fiber cloth after EVERY use!
I do a thorough cleaning of the bore when my P.O.I. changes, about every 6-700 shots. More often on my .22 because it really likes CHP 14.3’s and they are pretty “dirty” pellets ,in my opinion.
My procedure is pretty simple.
1. Remove the shroud and wipe down the exterior of the barrel of any lead dust
2. Remove the end cap and baffles from the shroud and clean all pieces the same way( remembering the orientation of the baffles)
3. My system for cleaning the bore is to use a length of weed whacker line ( melted and formed into a mushroom on one end) with an angle cut on the other end. I use 1″ square patches (doubled up) with a small hole punched in the center and inserted on to the line using the mushroom end to keep them from pulling through. I just use Hoppes #9 gun cleaning solvent on the patches and pull them through ( from the breech end ) until they come out clean.
4. I do not lube the bore because I lube my ammo for both of my Marauders.
5. I use a shotgun cleaning swab to wipe the inside of my shrouds of lead dust but a cloth can also be pushed through with a dowel or something similar.
6. When re-assembling, I do put some silicone grease on the threads of both ends of the shroud to prevent seizing and also on the front shroud support on the barrel ( I find that this prevents a P.O.I. Shift when re-installing the shroud.)
7. A little drop of oil on the bolt, wipe it down , shoot to check your “zero” and don’t forget to wipe that nasty thumb print off the objective lens.
I hope this info helps!

Very nice reply Bob, thanks for the info.
I’ll certainly check it out.

For rust protection you would want eezox. Goes on wet, cures dry, but still provides lubrication. They did rust tests, it came out ontop for the ones tested, which was most of them.

I think this stuff would work for moving parts too, but if not, i think i heard frog lube was good.

As for wood, i have some nice rifles, so been looking hard into how to protect them. Its very very tricky to say the least. Some stocks use a clear coat type finish, those you basically wipe with a micro fiber cloth with some reanisonce wax, i spelled that wrong but check amazon for it, its used in musiums.

Then u have oil rub type finishes, which is most likely what the marauder is, there’s lots of oils u can use, lemon oil, orange oil, linseed oil, tung oil, ect, but, most of those will change the color of the wood, and can be a pain to apply. So again, best bet, reassinoce wax. Also, moisture/humidity changes, cause wood to crack, big problem, as is dry rot

gun oil btw, is horrible for wood, never get it on it

Hello,

had a Marauder for 2 years. I shoot it often for hunting, plinking, target shooting. Indoor, and outdoor.
Never had to clean it nor seal the stock. Just wiped the mud or dust off.
Kept it with minimal lube using silicon oil or grease on the bolt, but really minimal.
Still shooting awesomely, never had an issue.

Cheers
Chris
