Q:

CNC bound

finally was able to order the steppers and controllers to CNC my Mini Mill, just going to do 3 axis for now (hope to do 4 then 5 in the future)

Also ordered a copy of Howard Buckley’s book, hope to see that in a couple weeks.

Already have some good software, just need to learn how to use it 😳

once I get the mill setup and also get up to speed on the software I hope to make next gen version of my stock as well as a full air rifle 😯
(don’t really need CNC to make the air rifle, will be a nice exercise though)

slightly better video, running all 3 axis’s

I hear ya WOK, just when I think I got it all figured out, I realize I still don’t know jack shit 😯

as promised – Z axis Pictures

Great progress.

I want one….but dont think I have the patience to figure out all the stuff that needs to be done.

the kit I ordered from keling was $415.11 shipped, 3 425oz steppers, 3 drivers a break out board, 36v power supply and a 24v fan.

I’ll try and get a couple of good pictures for you. (z axis mount is currently getting anodized)

primary goal right now is some rc heli parts I’ve designed and a new Talon stock, also plan on making a PCP rifle

of course none of that is until I get everything tuned appropriately and figure out the tool chain(software), got the tools, just need to learn how to use them 😯

Nice conversion 😀 how much did that CNC package cost ?. Wouldnt mind some pics of your z axis out of intrest , always looks tricky to make that run smooth from the other conversions ive seen. So when your finished , what are you going to make ????? 😀 😀

Got the Z going

Got the mounting plates made for X and Y, managed to break a gear working on the Z plate 👿 spindle hit a clamp 😯 🙄

Had problems with the PPort on the laptop I wanted to use, so I revived a tower and got x and Y running 😀
Sorry for the craptastic video quality, using a prototype phone camera
that and photobucket really sucks for video

Made a Control box from a old hard drive case

motors and drivers showed up last night, now to make the mounts and figure out how to wire it all together 😯

Sweet! looking forward to your opinion of them

cool i ordered some of the photo switches so ill let ya know how i get on with em

I’m getting the Keling 3 axis 425oz 36v package, comes with a CNC4PC C10 board and there drivers -kl-4030’s

already thinking about adding a C6 speed controller and a c-16 photo home and limit setup 🙂

also thinking that once I’m comfortable with the CNC thing, I’ll use the KL-4030 drivers to CNC the mini lathe and get better drivers for the mill, probably geko’s as well as a higher voltage supply.

got to keep telling myself, “one step at a time, one step at a time” 😀

wicked

what breakout board/stepper drivers are you using ?

just ordered a cnc4pc CM1G and a couple gecko’s for my mini lathe

my bigger stuff runs with the Mesa I/O cards using the existing analog drivers and the encoder feedback directly into the pc

yep-ers already have EMC2 installed and ready to go on an old laptop.

well as ready as I can make it without my controller and motors, with a bit of luck they’ll ship today (motors were back ordered)

Using solid works to create, and either camworks or mastercam for tool paths and EMC2 to drive the mill
