Q:

CNC

Hello all. 🙂
Ive not been on the forum for a while. Got a CNC lathe and had to learn to program it from a photo copied manual so not had a lot to show for six months or so.
But im finally getting my head around it.
I tried to learn it from a beginers point of veiw. but after a while i just jumped in with full programming. (cheers for the advice Bubba).
Any hoo. thaught id put a few pics of what i did over the holidays.

I got a full length of hexagonal 303 fee cutting stainless and stood and chiseld a few valve bodys out. Made quite a few ferk ups. But i edited the programs untill it was running sweet. Takes about 16 minutesto do a full valve body (done in two halfs/programs). Mainly ran at 750rpm, but wiil edit to run at 2000rpm for the other half of the bar.

I did away with the O ring on the tophat and instead put it further down to run on the stem.

You can just about see it down there.

Stems are a little harder. The pitch and depth of the threads and surface finish are hard to get right. And no anular dwell groove where the threads end so no week point to snap off at. These are straight off of the machine. No further finishing is needed. I went from 303fc to 316hmq to get this. The 316 is a little harder. But it gives a good shine.

Mr Leupy has offerd me a little space on his web site to put a few pics up. I’ll send him a few valves up for his pleasure in the next week or so.

Anyhoo. Sorry to have bored you for so long.
Av got a few bad videos of the bodys being done . But a dont know how to post em.
Thanks if you still awake 😕
Sean.

Quality work and a quality valve i have 2 of the originals and they give me everything i want 😉 top machining from a top bloke cheers Sean

Thats a good question sir.
The reason i did away with the tophat seal is that if the air, Which it would, got past the stem to the tophat would act as a piston and try to close pneumatically on a 13mm piston basically.
Im not sure of the math (not my forte’) but a 7mm is harder to close than than 13mm. Baz has 1 and he has it openinig on a standard hammer n spring quite well.
I put slightly stronger valve springs in to compensate.
If you running at higher pressure i would probly think about putting a heavy hammer/spring in tho. But im sure you know that.
Ive run at 300 bar before with a .25 set up with the old brass type valves. They had the stem seal as the new 1s do and it was good .
Am gunna do a few more stems today n start porting them. Al do another video and try n get it on here or at least a youtube link to it.
Al pm you later with a price dude after av had a think about it.
Till later then. Sean.

These valves can you put one on and fill to say 3600 and they would work or would we have a problem opening them on this high of pressure, what is the price for complete valve?

Not boring at all!!!

Pretty freaking cool actually. 😉

Can’t wait to see what kind of amazing stuff you can produce with these new tools and skills!!!!
