COLD weather test Gas Ram VS Springer (Trail XL vs RWS 48)
Well Theres been some interest in this test Ive seen on the forums now so I had the time to do it. The 1st test was done in room temperature(50 degrees) i keep guns in the basement locker and its 50 there
the second test was done after guns were set outside for 2 hours in the 11 degree chill
The pellet used was 14.3 grain Crosman ultramags unsorted
with the cold test I brough each gun in seperatly so one didnt warm up while one was being tested
heres the resaults

The trail took a full 25 shots to come back to full power again
My take is for my use which is Driving around making stands for Crows, coon,and foxI will be fine with either gun as The car is heated and guns will be warm
But i think springers have an advantage in the cold The ram lost more power, came back slower and was more erradic coming back to power
I will stick to the more accurate gun for my hunting which is still to be determined as both of these guns are Deffiante shooters!!!
Whats your opinions here
did i miss anything when testing? are there other variables to consider?
minus the fact that i used unsorted pellets

Ha. Speaking of, we had 2 blow out within a week of each other. One a few days ago, and one this morning. I think you did it.

Tom is never full of it, he only fills to 2700 so he can reach full spew!

i think im going to use the 48 mostly as its an absolute tack driver and is very consistant even when cold
IMO you have THE best spring available currently.
Shoot it and enjoy in fact it carries a great warranty as well.

any temp fit to be out shooting in won’t cause any problems to a quality spring.

I don’t have any Gas guns but have4 springers, thanks for the information. Also can it be where they are made? I have a Stoger and a Crosman.
The Stoger will shoot through a Lowe’s 1X6 heavy treated board 1″ side of corse.

Anecdotally… springs tend to break in the cold. Garage door torsion springs tend to fail at end of life when the weather cools off significantly. I’m sure I read Gaylord indicate the same about spring piston guns.
With a pinch of salt; I believe your gas ram has a better shot at longevity in prolonged cold weather usage.
Anyone else have an idea about the lubricants used on the spring and cold weather?

You can clamp them together with U-bolts and rewind them with a piece of rebar, I got another 3 years out of mine before it finally tool a crap.
