Q:

Colibri V2.1? what is that?

As the title asks, what is a Colibri V2.1? This is the one PCP airgun, bull pup or otherwise that seemed to suit me best, but I rushed to be one of the first. That didn’t work out so well. So by the time these guns were sorted out by the dealers I had moved on and do not own the gun at this time. It needed to evolve to be reliable. I’d like to assume it has been improved (where needed), but I would like to know what the v2.1 means. I want to revisit the possibility of owning an improved version if one exists, and has been fond to be free of the ills that plagued the first series.
thank you,
Darryl

thanks for listing the mods. much appreciated. I’ll add that early on I had discussed the POI shift withPetr and Ernest, where the shroud ended up after tightening, and that I had a solution. I put an o-ring on the unit so I could set my POI the shroud. I’d discussed this with Ernest and Petr at the time of my woe with the gun. Ernest went on to do as I did with the O-ring: http://talonairgun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=33406&p=341508&hilit=Darryl+shroud+oring#p341508 I’m not saying he used my idea to solve the problem. More that great minds think alike. :winkn: When Ernest had the gun it came back to me with very smooth action and a to-die-for trigger tune. But it still did want to index consistently. Fast forward, and I must be jinxed. My Eddy has an indexing problem now. :sadn:
PS see here (used the Way-Back to locate it. near the bottom of the page): http://talonairgun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=31047&p=314153&hilit=Darryl#p314153 My posts about the gun go back into Nov, 2014

Ernest Colibri mods are

-Remove original “semi auto” spring parts from front of barrel.
-readjust the bolt mechanism so blowback is eliminated. (usually a few turns of a threaded rod)
-polish hammer, bolt & other internals so when cocking arm is retracted , mag can be removed & inserted without holding rod back under pressure. (a very nice feature)
-clean & lap the barrel
-eliminate feed/indexing problem by adding a small spring to the indexing arm so its in a fixed position (arm is not altered, just a tiny hole drilled in it to accept spring)
-Shroud O-ring mod (just to keep shroud tight & eliminate any POI change)
-replace reg. o-ring with larger/better one

If you search this site & the Yellow, these mods will all come up, most with pics..
He might do more, but these are all I can think of, till hopefully Ernest chimes in..

He tuned a black/black Colibri for me and its a Swiss Watch…Action is like glass and never had a jam ever..

I believe the return spring is removed so you have manually operate the bolt. I do think the indexing arm angle is also changed. There are other mods as well. Ernest’s website will be up soon and all his mod videos will be available there I believe.

BTW Keyser, what are the “Ernest mods”? Do they include a return spring and or a re-angled indexing arm?

videos refer to the V2.1:

so of course I’m curious. would love to own a working model one day.

PS so far I’ve pm’d Ernest, and written to him. Perhaps I am persona non-gratis?

Although I have never seen that specific version I believe it is referring to the second batch of Colibris that came to the USA with the Ernest Rowe mods to the gun. Ernest turned a dog into a cat with his upgrades to the gun. Some dealers were calling the post Ernest Colibri 2.1 or V2 or second gen. I have an Ernest tuned Colibri and is is perfect. Zero malfunctions and I really like the gun. So what I would do if I were you is contact Ernest (or maybe he’ll post here) and have explain the Colibri to you and what to look for.

Darryl, where are you seeing this designation? From what I’m seeing there are two versions..a “long serial number” version which is what we all get here in the US and a “short number” version where the serial is only 4 or 5 digits. I believe member Ash, here, has a low number one, but I don’t know what country he’s in.
I would like to compare each and see what’s the difference, but so far all I have are long numbered ones…If anyone has a short number one and can give a quick overview with pics, it would be much appreciated..Would like to see a pic of a short numbered gun with the rear/side cover off, please..
