Combro Chronograph
Thanks to DKOwen posting about the price drop on these due to the exchange rate change in the dollars favor I ordered one last Friday.
Very small, seems built well enough and in a nice box with instructions. Mounted it to my Daisy 953 because its the lowest power gun I have and I didnt want to take any chances.
Easily adjusted it to fit and used painter’s tape to attach it because I couldnt find a rubber band and I might just keep using the tape anyway.
I ordered the bore guide, thinking it was just a piece of brass, but it has a plastic part that fits the sensor housing of the combro
Has 3 steps in the brass part that are for .177, .22 and .25 bore’s
And a little LED flashlight at the other end
Tiny compared to my Shooting Chrony Gamma
Work’s like it should, no messing around – just mount it, hit the button and shoot. I compared it to my Shooting Chrony and the Combro read 461fps and the Shooting Chrony read 462.1fps…. Has very good customer service, can buy all the spare’s you need from his site and the speed of reply and shipping means I dont even notice that he’s not in the US.
Overall, very happy and I’ll be ordering the data cable when he has them in stock. If it wasn’t for Archery and big bore’s I’d sell the Shooting Chrony.

I just tried the combro with my RWS 54… nothing happened at all, display just sitting there like its waiting. So I dropped a pellet through, read 2.4 fps which seems right.
Strange…

Thanks for the heads up. The threads are fine, I can see how a guy could screw it up tightening it too much. I’ll watch out for that.
Glad to hear you can change the level, like I said it’s never been important to me, but seeing you from Germany got what’s left of my mind thinking…….

I said I would never be dumb enough to shoot my chrony like everyone else complained about; while I waited for its delivery. After setting it up my second test shot went right into the face.
“Well, I’ll be damned! Everyone does shoot their chrony.”
Sorry DKO…my fault. I’ve seen after the screw again and you are right, its metal. Nevertheless carefully tighten the screw. I’ve damaged the thread easily. You can set the legal limit individual from 0-29 joule or 0- 29 ft – lbs. Of course you have to enter the pellet weight, too.

How long have you had your Shooting Chrony?
I notice the front is emaculate (read: no pellet damage).
The first day I got it, I dropped my basement bulkhead door on it – Scratched the base up, but still worked. Then a ricochet from a .308 cut through the wire that runs to the rear sensor that I managed to patch it up myself and finally I got sick of forgetting to turn the thing off and going through 9v battery’s so I got a 9v DC supply, attached a 9v battery clip to it and turned on the chrony…. only for it to burn out – I should have tested the supply first because it was actually 24v….
So I sent it back to Chrony a few months ago for an “upgrade” and they sent back my metal housing, but with Gamma electronics.
Could be, but I have (at least one) earlier model. The one we busted was a Mk3, several years old. I saw a photo of an earlier one in an article (Mk1 or 2?) that looked the same. For the life of me I can’t see why a product that seems so well thought through wouldn’t use a metal screw in the application……

Oh, I’m not so sure about being secure and all ((‘ve been called less….) but I was holding it, I had a front row seat when it blew apart.
Understand there was no ‘hole blown through it’, the pellet didn’t hit anything (in fact it may have read speed just fine, I didn’t look…). As stated cryptically in the written manual (not the online one I’d read…..I bought it second hand, it came with no manual) high ME guns can cause the housing to open up (there’s a seam at the top, right?). This allows the bed plate in the tunnel to be stripped out (open your unit, you’ll see how this can happen). That tore sensors out by the roots and sent the lot downrange after the pellet.
And don’t give Brother Helder too much credit, I made the key decisions and called ‘fire’, he was only following orders………
I’ve used my AH shroud at the same levels without problems, I think because the shock wave is broken up.
It can happen with rubber bands too….or tape of most any color.

I don’t understand the ‘silver plastic screw’ part. Mine doesn’t seem to have this. There is a silver (chrome plated I think) screw on the right for the clamp for the vee block, but it’s metal and screws into a nut on the other side. I don’t see a problem with mine, what should I be watching for?
Is there a way to set the ‘legal/illegal’ function to reflect the German rather than Brit limits? Over here, we just ignore that part since there is no limit, but that function is one of the key selling points I think?

I rarely remove protective tape – I have a scratch phobia and it make’s stuff look nicer when you sell it. If a display doesn’t come with it.. then I’ll buy a covering (www.bestskinsever.com).
How did you have your combro secured when helder blew a hole through it?
I love this tool, too. But you have to be careful with the silver plastic screw. The thread is very sensitive.

Most cool, glad you like it. WFIW I typically just hold it on the muzzle and fire one into a safe backstop with the other.
BTW, you should probably peal the protective tape off the window…..

I smell a misalignment. The beam you have to break is pretty small (think matchstick). You gotta be pretty close to dead on since you have to block all of the beam. Or rather the pellet does.
If you hit one, but not the other, there’s an error message to that effect, you’re close.
It’s not that they don’t like German guns, mine worked fine on my 54 and a bunch of others.
I suggest you give it another go?
