Q:

Compact .25 build complete .. here’s the numbers !

I have received a lot of mail about this rifle and promised everyone that I would publish a final report of the details. I wanted this rifle to have a total maximum length of 34″, maximum weight of 6 pounds and to be packing about 60 FPE from this little package. Here are the details 🙂

Standard Airforce Frame

Length with the WOK butt installed 34.25″

5 inch Metal Head Mod

6 lbs 4 oz’s total weight

13.5″ .25 caliber barrel

90 gram hammer

Trigger Job with set screws .. came out real sweet.

Safety removed

Factory hammer spring

Condor new style High Flow bottle

Centerpoint 3×12 Compact Scope

30mm one piece High scope mount

With Kodiaks she is shooting at 930 fps for a smack down power of 59.35 FPE and she will go higher. I could shim the hammer spring to get another 1 FPE or so … but the thing is a BEAST already !

Noise level … the Metal Head Mod is only 5″ long and does a good job of taming the muzzle BOOM on this thing .. the sound level is like shooting an R-9 ! To keep her totally quiet would take a few more inches of Mod and that would just increase the length more than what the concept of this rifle is all about. I”ll take the sound level of a medium springer and be real happy with that 🙂

By increasing the bottle pressure 100 psi at a time and checking it on the chronograph the velocity kept increasing … so this thing will definately shoot harder than it is either with more hammer spring or hammer weight.

But it is pounding my pellet trap so hard now that I wear goggles when doing velocity testing .. it splatters lead back onto the floor and that’s with a cardboard face covering the steel trap .. it blows lead fragments back thru the cardboard 😀

It’s a Compact lightweight BEAST 😀

I’ll be looking for a used Talon now to start mine. Who has the 14″ barrel and how much?

later

Short and sweet 🙂 and great speed and power for a 13.5 barrel. .25s are the 3006 of the air gun world, flat shooting and hard hitting!

wut da fuk? oops sorry drooled on the key board there ( don’t scold me lama! ). na serious, nice gun!!! Would said mod be possible utilizing the stock SS shroud minus maybe minor modifications?

Yes that Mod will go right on an SS frame 😀

You’ll have to PM Metal Head for one.

thanks!

Yep, I’ll let you know about it.
I am excited to see how it will turn out!

Nice job!! after Dad shoots it your done.

10 shots for sure … hoping for 12.

When you get numbers with that 100 gram hammer be sure to post it up for me !!

I am going with a 14″ barrel next time too .. will be looking to see how yours turns out.

Keep after that project it’s worth it 😀

Dang it man! That is sweet!
Thank you for doing the tesing with 90gr hammer. As soon as I get my 14″ barrel from Eric AKA Metal Head and 100gr hammer, hopefully from Tony, I will enjoy the same sweet shorty. I practically have all the parts accept those two. I ordered them from AirForce cuz I just got fired up to put short rifle together from parts.
How many powerful shots do you think you can get from 3K fill?

Did you start off with a Talon of Talon ss frame ? Did you buy it from AF with the trigger group and no barrel ?

I started off with a Standard Talon with the 18″ barrel in .177 … I put that barrel into my Talon SS squirrel rifle and then looked at this short standard frame wondering what to do with it 😀

Very nice.

Now put a Hogue Slip on Grip….then you will be done 😀

It’s getting a one piece laminated as soon as I get the finish on that completed 😀

That will increase the weight another 4 ounces … but I had planned to put a Leupold 3×9 EFR Compact on it which weighs 11 ounces.

Dad wouldn’t spring for the extra 210 bucks for the Leupy and this Centerpoint weighs a flippin 17 ounces ! It’s got side focus and really nice looking optics for the price but danged it’s heavy !

Next up is to build one that I get to keep .. my Dad is really going to enjoy this one 😀

I’m going with a 14″ barrel and 5.5″ Mod on mine so I can get that 60 FPE without having to try hard … are you paying attention Eric 😀

This is an actual 3 shot group fired at 40 yards when zeroing in the rifle. It looks big in the pic but actually measures 3/4’s of an inch.

2 pellets printed side by side starting a nice little sub 1/4 inch group and then it threw the 3rd pellet high and to the right. The tin I am using out of is heavily lubed with Krytech which the barrel loved when new .. but I’ve since lapped the bore and polished the crown on this barrel during the build process.

It’s either going to like dry Kodiaks or lightly lubed ones .. I’ll find out when my order of new .25 Kodiak Match Pellets gets here in a few days. It’s just a matter of dialing it in now.

I am cutting the bottle off at 10 shots for the moment … but will play with the power wheel settings and new pellets looking for 12 shots per fill.

Dang this is fun ! 😀

Thanks Guy’s ! I got it zeroed at 40 yards but was running out of daylight. I’ll do a lot of groups later in the week .. rain tomorrow.

It’s a Compact BLAST to shoot 😀

That is pretty badass. Getting that kind of energy out of a 13.5″ barrel is impressive, nice job.

Nice Pulaskius, how is it grouping?
