Q:

Compact & Super Effective Flashlight/Lamping Setup

Surefire 6P –

High Quality incandescent flashlight for $55

Cree LED module – $20

Stock bulb on the left, CREE LED replacement on right. I wanted the durability, extra output, better runtime and more consistent brightness over the batteries life than incandescent bulbs offer. Just search for “Cree 6p” on eBay and you’ll get several different companies, I got mine from Hong Kong and it arrived very quickly.

Tacstar Surefire/T6 pressure switch – $20

For remote on and off, replaces the stock on off switch (on the left in picture)… very good switch, not fussy about where or how hard you press it.

So for $95 I got a super bright and durable flashlight that outputs around 150 lumen’s (They claim 200, but thats with 3 cells) which is way more than I need on an Airgun and the bulb will never need replacing and battery life is awesome, brightness doesnt dim like regular bulbs, stays constant and then a sharp decline after about 2-3 hours.

I have a Maglite 2xAA with a 3 Watt LED and I used to own an Optronics lamping kit. This way outperforms the large, bulky and cheap plastic optronics lamps and its much much brighter than the mag lite and uses CR123 batteries that are cheap online (DON’T buy from the supermarket…), stay good up to ten years and work in very cold temperatures. You can find red filter’s for them from surefire or after market companies if you want.

The body of the surefire is 1″ so it can be mounted in a regular 1″ scope mount without any modifications. Just get some Velcro (hook and loop) and attach it to the gun and switch to mount where you want it.

You can substitute a 6p clone or a Surefire G2 Nitrolen to save some money over the 6P I used.

I have a surefire flip up red filter on mine (and another with an IR filter), nice to be able to get a lot more light with just popping the cover.

Yo Ross,

I am still figuring out what works for me at to moment, It bleeden wet and windy the last few nights , and my local supermarket has polish Tiskyie larger on special at mo, it is too inviting of an evening ๐Ÿ˜ณ .

I find that the distance for the beam is reduced by 50% with the red filter.

eamo ๐Ÿ˜€

Glad it finally came !

Do you change between white and red light often? If not I’d just put the filter on the inside of the lens.

Hey Ross,

Thanks a million for the scope mount for the light, you are a top bloke, and I owe you one. I received it on friday, but only got around to fitting it on Monday, will give it a lick of paint soon though.

The surefire clone works great, and costs a whole lot less. I got some cling wrap, red marker, and a hair band and made a red filter for it.

I still cant get over how much light comes from this tiny light light ๐Ÿ˜ฏ Its fookin bright. Easly enough for lamping out to 60m, and 50m with red filter.

Heres some crap pictures of it fitted;

Its all a bit slap dash at the moment as I was eager to get out and try it out, I will refine it some what soon โ—

Oh and my two wee dogs, Boris and Tyson.

return shipping shouldnt be anywhere near what you paid originally so may as well get a replacement. Will hopefully work properly.

Thats why I went with the slightly more expensive tacstar switch (still only $20).

Have any pics ?

Can anyone help me out โ“

Have you got a 1inch scope mount to spare that fits the condor rail? went looking in my box of bits and bobs, could only find old ones from QB78, and they are too big for the talon rail.

Anyone got one for small bucks??

Hi Guys,

Just want to report back on my purchases:

Ultrafire 6p torch ( surefire clone)$20… inc shipping- Works great, I havent seen the original, but the quality looks great, well made everything fits snug, light and super bright, comes with genuine Surefire Batteries, very impressed.

Cree LED, great addition, more focused, blue tinge, and brighter and more piercing- cheap as chips ๐Ÿ˜€

Pressure switch- PANTS, looks OK , but will not screw on correctly, jams after 1\2 turn when you try screw it on. I dont want to force it and feck up the threads on the torch- Doesnt work. Trying to decide wheather to send it back to Hong Kong and pay shipping one way, and recieve another piece of crap, or just buy from a different seller, and recieve another piece of crap ๐Ÿ™„ .

I’ll post some Pics soon if anyone is interested โ“

Hey Shadoh,

I’m stuck in the space time continium, not ignoring ya, euro time !!!!

The total cost was รขโ€šยฌ39.00 inc shipping, granted that shipping on two of the items was a couple of bucks more that the item itself, but nothing too excessive. ๐Ÿ’ก ๐Ÿ’ก

Girlfriends with credit cards are great ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜†

Sweet..That’s definitely the way to go. I started off with a cheap swatforce taclight which works good enough for me, then the old father in law gave me his old surefire z3..that thing is way bright, juice hog though. I’m gonna have to pick up one of those cree led lamps…Been using my lights with red filters on them, if I need more light I flip the filter down and it’s bright as day..die critter die ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

The ones I saw with multiple output levels were with the same battery. They had like low, medium, high, strobe and some had SOS. I just didnt like the idea of cycling through the switch to get those different levels. A twist knob would be great but Im only looking at the bulbs atm.

One thing I did notice. For the price of a bulb you can get a cheapo light with the bulb already installed and some even have a remote switch included. A few sets include rechargeable batts and a charger.

One light I saw had an opening bid of .99 cents and a shipping cost of 70 bucks ). Thats why I was asking Eamo if the prices he paid were with shipping costs.

I did see allot of Cree LEDs that you can upgrade your MiniMag lights with. The idea of using AAA batts doesnt appeal to me though.

I have a few hand held lights with multiple brightness settings and strobes etc… and all the ones I have require mutliple presses on the tail mounted switch to cycle through the different features (some like the Surifre U2 have a dial near the end you just twist for different brightness’s, and the gladius has a megnetic switch). For gun mounted lights I just want them to be on or off… no variance…

Some of the lights your looking at with their different power levels are fixed output (in most cases)…. but they give those different power output depening on how many cells you run them off.. I have a small pocket light that came with 3 different battery holders, 1 AA, 2 AA, 1 CR123 and 2CR123… with 1 AA its 50 lumen, with 2 CR123 its 150 lumens and I dont get a choice, it just puts out more brightness depending on the voltage supplied to it. There is an exception in that you can buy tailcaps that contain electronics (either resistors or small circuits that strobe the light very fast to make it appear dimmer) and those will give you different features.

The CREE module I have now for instance gives out 100 lumens with 2 CR123’s and 150 with 3 cells…. (according to the ads). So when I put it in my surefire 6p I get the 100 lumen output no matter what I do… I turn the tail cap and I get 100 lumens…. BUT… I could buy a custom tailcap that has special features built into it to give me different power outputs etc….

I tried to take pictures of things illuminated at 45 yards with a few different flashlights, but I couldnt get the right setting to get exposures the same as what I was seeing..

I can say that the magite 3watt LED 2AA flashlights are pretty good for the price and the fact they just run on 2AA’s though…

Another question. I see bulbs with multiple power levels. I assume that to cycle through those levels you have to hit the switch multiple time? Multiple output levels sounds great so you can pick how much light you need and increase battery time but on a gun you dont want to be cycling you want it off or on right?

Eamo, are those prices including shipping? Often Im seeing prices in those ranges on Ebay but the shipping is even higher than the part. Most bulbs Im seeing are at least 20 bucks with shipping, or more.

Doesnt get anywhere near as hot as the stock bulb, but yeah, it does give of some heat and its dissapated by the flashlight body.
