Condor 0.22 cal on CO2 and chrony numbers
I got my CO2 tank and adaptor yesterday for my condor. I ordered the 20 oz tank and adaptor for $119.00 my only experience with CO2 is with a little Crossman pistol that used CO2 and shot BB’s. Needless to say I was not impressed. However, my neighbors were giving a few frowns while blasting off the condor in the back yard. So after watching the video on Pyramyd air I bought the CO2 and adaptor, thinking that it would be quieter than on air, and with Paul’s chrony number be perfect for my backyard pest. Well, it is quieter but it has it’s moments and Paul was averging 18 foot pound with Beeman Kodiaks 21.10 grain. In his video he claimed you wouyld get 600’s to low 600’s velocity so I set up my chrony and I turned my power setting and moved my dial over to 12. WOW!!!! I did not know CO2 was capable of kicking butt. I fired 30 times over my chrony then got my other rifle to double check my chrony. Nothing wrong with chrony, here is what I got using CO2 on a Condor .22 cal with Beeman Kodiak 21.10 grain 691, 698, 693, 678, 686, 697, 699, 692, 687, 691. average velocity was 691.2 and putting out 22.3 ft lbs. on CO2! I could not believe it. I called a friend of mine and told him about this and he said oh yeah, they are quite capable. He kinda laughed at me because he thought that I already knew that CO2 wasn’t that bad. So I loaded the Condor and drove out to his place where we were punching paper at 50 yards easy. I still couldn’t believe that CO2 could do that. I am very happy with the gun, we couldn’t find any rabbits or praire dogs around his place, but we were able to take out crows at his place at 30 to 50 yards easy. I will definatly be refilling my CO2 bottle if it ever runs out. I will be using this set up around the house, and I will put my air back on if needed out at the farm. JW

See thats what I need, a big ass tank of co2!…I wonder how quick i could empty one of those 50 lb’rs 😉

Anything beond 7-8 on mine really does nothing for velocity. Actually it hurst after a quick string of 15-20 shots, because the excess co2 does nothing but cool the gun more rapidly, essentially lowering air pressure for each successive shot.
My co2 fills are 15 bucks for a 20lb bottle, then I refill my own. guess that would be less than a dollar a fill. (got two 20lb tanks from a mom/pop gas station that was going out of business for 25 bucks and my fill setup cost about 30 in fittings.
The Condor really sold me when I tested it on Co2, having never fired one before–it really is kick ass. I kept the PW at a modest level, never tried it past 8.

Yeah the 20oz is kind of bulky.. Interesting though, I thought the CO2 tanks came in 9oz or 20. I ‘ll have to look into the 14oz ones. How much does it cost to refill CO2 tanks?
I ‘m pretty sure I saw the 20oz spider tanks at Wallmart for $79.95. I ‘ll go check it out this wknd, thanks!
for best shooting comfort, I’ve found the 12-14oz tanks much better. the 20oz is too fat to be comfortable looking through the scope.
I knew that (duh)! Thanks guys, I wasn’t thinking. I have several CO2 guns and my RWS 850 .22 shoots in the low-mid 500’s in the winter but 600’s in the summer. However, I do keep the 850 rifle by the radiator under the window during the winter, and keep the room at 70deg or warmer and then shoot out the window when the opportunity presents itself. It gets a lot colder here than 50deg in the winter time btw 🙂 I would never walk around outside with a CO2 gun.

So which CO2 tank did you get? You didn’t get the Air Force one? What adapter did you have to get? CO2 sounds pretty good right now for winter crow hunting in the back yard. I can’t get my Condor to shoot less than 46fpe on the lowest setting so 22fpe will be perfect for crows & squirrels in the winter. That’s what my 350 springer does with Kodiaks.

Glancing at your profile/location I notice NY for state of residence and you said you’d like to tone down velocity some for WINTER crow shooting. Keep in mind CO2 is very temperature sensitive. 700fps is very possible on an 85 degree day, but the same gun in the winter, outdoors, at 50 degrees will be substantially less, probably in the 450-500fps range and it gets worse as the temp drops. Basement shooting with 3-500 shots on a co2 fill would be great but in your area of the country for reduced velocity and outdoor winter shooting I’d opt for an additional HPA tank with the Micro-meter valve. Similar velocity and shot count to the CO2 without the temperature sensitivity.

I got the 20 oz CO2 bottle and adaptor at pyramyd air. the bottle is a spider brand the same one that airforce sells for a $119.00. Got to airforce accesories on their web. I was told today that CO2 losses alot of velocity in the winter. So I do not know how good it will be through the winter, you might want to ask somebody on how CO2 reacts durring the winter. When I got those chrony number it was 89 degrees outside hope this helps. JW
22+FPE is great on CO2! That’s perfect for backyard hunting.

I get a ton of 3.5 oz bottle re-fills! As already mentioned, the colder the weather gets, the more C02 sucks… I would only use HPA in the winter. I never read much here though about re-filling the bottles just right, I use the digital scale to weigh my bottles as I fill them. To full is no good, and not enough just gets you less shots.
