Q:

Condor .22 power (with a shroud/moderator)

I would really love a .25 but anything above a .22 is illegal on public land.

I see the really impressive numbers put up by tuned .25 cals. What about .22s?

Would it be possible to take Condor and trick it out so it’s throwing a ~40gr .22 at 60 foot pounds on the highest settings but still fire a light 16gr polymag just under the speed of sound on a lower setting?

What about a moderator/shroud? Would it be able to tame the gun for backyard shooting of pests?

Pretty much what I’m looking to do. I want to to shoot mostly JSB 18.1s and 16gr Polymags most of the time in the 980-990 FPS range for squirrels, pigeons, and rats on a low power setting. That’s 34-38FPE.

I’d like to be able to crank it up to high power for throwing serious .22 lead down on raccoons, possums and coyotes. Throw stuff like 26gr Bigboys or even 42gr Eunjins at respectable but stable speeds. Still not breaking the sound barrier.

I guess what I’m asking is how fast do you think I could sling a 42gr without a lot of noise?

The one issue in switching from a .22 to a .25 cal barrel is that you might need to go to condor hi-flo vave and heavier hammer weight to push the pellet fast so switching from one barel to another becomes problematic.

The .22 will work well for backyard shooting with one of Subsonics inserts or a shroud from Tony. I keep my PW at 4.4 and with Sub’s insert its really quite using JSB 15.9 pellets. So much so I never worry about the neighbors. If I wanted to raise the FTE for better kill capacity, I’d just crank up the PW and use a HN 21.14 pellet that will get me around 26 FTE that would be good enough for small critters if needed. You just have to keep in mind that shot placement is key with any of these airguns.

Thanks for the welcome and the reply.

The .22 and the .25 have interchangeable barrels? No other parts need to be swapped out? Interesting. 😀

What I want, of course, is accuracy. If I’m gonna thunk a raccoon’s noggin, I want to throw some heavy lead but I don’t want that same power for small stuff like squirrels.

It would be nice to keep it quiet. For example. Say I wanted to shoot a 16gr polymag at a squirrel. I’m trying to determine the fastest (and most accurate) speed I can shoot it without breaking a reasonable dB level.

Hey bro, welcome to TAG!
If you’re restricted from shooting anything over .22 cal on public land, and you’re gonna want to shoot on public land, get the .22. If you find you need, or want 8-), something with a little more umph, get a .25 barrel and slip it in.

I don’t have a condor, but even the Talon SS needs a good shroud or insert for backyard friendly shooting. Depending on the shroud you get, may have to turn the power down a bit to get the gun quiet enough for rubber-necking neighbors. 😀

Let us know what you get.
