Condor: First day at the range
Well, this is my first airgun and I just received the Hill pump I ordered after cancelling the order on the Airforce pump (thanks to this forum).
Since I only took a few shots on CO2 with cheap Daisy pellets from Wally World in my back yard (enough to adjust the Airforce scope at 12 yards) I thought I would take the Condor to the range to adjust the Top Hat of the air tank.
Pumped the tank last evening to about 2800 PSI (nice work out) and took my trusty PACT IV timer/chronograph as well as a full tin of Exact Jumbo pellets.
After setting my target at 25 yards, the power wheel at 4.1 and the Top Hat at .072 I started adjusting the scope while recording the pellets speed.
I took me two quarter turns out of the Top Hat to see a raise in pellet speed, so I secured it there and kept shooting.
Pellet speed was pretty steady at 1,143 Ft/s for more than 20 shoots so I switched to CO2 with the same power setting and got about 720 Ft/s pellet speed.
Took the target to 50 yards and was able to maintain sub inch groups with CO2 and HPA although I was hitting about 6 inches higher on paper with HPA vs. CO2.
I felt the trigger was too stiff and had too much overtravel so I will install a stop screw and polish the trigger before my next shooting.
All in all, a really fun gun to shoot 😛 . After about 40 pellets on HPA, I was still getting about 1,140 Ft/s. 😯
Next time, I will try to lower the power wheel to stay sub-sonic and record a continuous 50 rounds string and publish it so you can all tell me what you think. 8)
One funny thing is that the inside diameter of the Top Hat tube on the CO2 adapter is the same as the Hi-flow valve of the HPA tank. I thought it would be smaller from the pics I have seen on this forum. May be a new version?

If you put normal oil in a springer, the rapid compression can ignite it, causing bigtime issues.
But it can also make a gamo shoot 1600fps.
But if you are just lubing pellets, I don’t think it will be a problem. Just don’t have them dripping with the oil and no big deal. And don’t squirt the oil onto the gun.
And the o-rings may deteriorate after a while anyway, but most of us change them out every so often as it is so that’s not a big deal.
I use Break Free on all my firearms and it’s been a great product.
As far as airguns, I saw a video with Tom Gaylor where he uses it to lubricate the pellets so I assumed I could use it safely.
I appreciate feedback though. It seems that FP-10 is the lubricant of choice. Any special reason for it?
Is BreakFree Oil ok to use in air weapons? Does it not ‘diesel’ ??

Not to worry, I will only polish the grit off the trigger parts. It’s my first airgun but not my first gun either… 😉
I wanted to see how many shots I could get at the power setting I had because it would be similar to what I would get with heavier pellets at lower speed.
Next time, I’ll try to get the JSB at under 1,000 Ft./s by lowering the power setting.
I have some EunJin 28.4 gr. on order for when I’ll want more punch (not really needed for paper).
With regards to pellets lubrication, I used some BreakFree oil I put on a piece of foam on which I rubbed the pellets before loading them in the barrel.
I noticed the oil would get around the barrel at the breach and would likely end up mixing with the silicon grease present on the O-rings sealing the top hat with the barrel.
Since only silicon grease is suposed to be used on these O-rings, should I expect them to deteriorate?

The talon valve is the smaller version, your gun is going past the sound barrier, I’d try pw 0 or a lower setting to get the speed down or like someone said heavy pellets.
Like the metal head said, be very careful polishing the trigger. If you change an angle on the sear, or other parts, the gun may never cock again.

I have it on mine and it is a HUGE improvement. Not a target trigger, but you can clearly feel 2 stages, and minimal overtravel. If you can do it, then do. You’ll never look back. Truly one of the top mods for our guns, but one no one ever thinks of.

If you’re getting 40 consistent shots @ 1140 don’t touch anything lol! You might want to try shooting a heavier pellet (JSB monsters, Eun Jins) to see if you can get your speeds sub-sonic.
Be careful polishing your trigger so you don’t change any angles or wear through case hardening, a little moly lube helps too.

I don’t think there will be an issue with Break-Free then.
This oil meets all kind of specs for military applications on firearms and has a high flash point.
