Q:

condor hammer

the condor has a heavier hammer than the talon, but am i correct that it is two pieces?

how do i remove the extra piece?

and what will this do?

my goal is to get better shot consistency with lower fps.
the pellets i use now are jsb 15.9, and cp hp’s
the cp do fine 50 yds or less. the jsb do fine to 100

the problem i decided to f with my gun and i f’ed it up now i am chasing poi all over the place, any and all suggestions welcome

wind was to strong yesterday shot six 5 shot groups 1.5 to 2.5 at 50

last night i removed the barrel checked the bushing removed the extra hammer weight with some help from the quick ref, cleaned a bunch of gunk from the internals. light polish and reassemble.

this morning the winds were pretty light so i tried again three 5 shot groups with the shroud off .62 .69 .79 now thats better.

three 5 shot groups with the shroud on 1.05 .81 1.32 not as good but the winds picked up quite a bit and all fliers are in the direction the wind was blowing

i still want to shoot a 1″ at 100 but i can live with this until i get some heavier pellets

thanks for your help, here are some pics as of today.

Metal Head thats exactly why i shot a group with the shroud off, i had a small clipping problem when i first got the shroud but i believe i have that resolved, but just in case i will shoot a few groups with it on and off tomorrow and post my results.

the new forearm is very tight and is attached with the same screw as the original. if the shroud is not clipping this will be my next check.

i’ll post my results in the morning.

If it groups fine with the shroud off it sounds like your pellets are clipping. I would check out your shim job on the bushings to make sure you don’t somehow have the barrel canted inside the frame. Also if you used the barrel bushing screws to attach your new forearm, or you have any other new screws touching the barrel/bushings it could be throwing you off. The frames on these guns flex a little (mostly in the breech area). Not as likely but if your forearm is abnormally tight it may causing an alignment problem due to frame deflection.

although i can see pikes peak from my house i have no hills close by, i do not believe i am going to fast but would like to see if accuracy improves by going a little slower.

i have been shooting with 2000 psi fill, pw 4.1 most shots will go through a prairie dog at 75 yards.

what part of southern arizona are you in? i was born in phoenix, and grew up in the verde valley.

steve

If the shot echos off the hillside you are shooting too fast.

hey wok thanks for the list.

i removed the barrel and painted the gun camo, while barrel was out i shimed the bushings with scotch tape, also ported front bushing, it was loose so i used some blue loc-tite. made a new forearm almost 2 in wide 12 long starts where the front one was but goes all the way to the trigger guard, i made it a very tight fit , i might have to open it up a little. home made wok butt out of 1/8″ X 1″

put it all back together and could not zero, i got it close then poi was all over the place vertical and horizontal 2″ to 2.5″ at 50, with no further adjustment of the scope, this gun did better than that at 75 before i “fixed” it

i also split the stock grip and added 1/8 spacers, epoxied gap with 5 min epoxy. when that was set i mixed epoxy with sawdust and built up and rounded the front and back of the stock grip to better fit the hogue grip.

while waiting for someone to respond to my post i drained my tank, polished the stem in and out polished the top hat, lubed with silicone,
reassembled, set top hat to .060 and after some searching removed
bills frame extender 2000 fill .22 jsb 15.8 5 rounds at 40 yards less than 1″ much better, and this was in 20 mph winds.

tomorrow i will put the shroud back on and see if my groups open back up

so i think i may have found the poi problem, so what can i do to insure that i am not shooting with to much fps, i do not have a crony to test?

again any and all advice is welcome. steve

Tell us what you did to the gun.

POI change all over the place could be several things.

If you have the Condor tank, taking out the wieght will make it hard to knock that valve open.
