Condor high-flow tank
I have searched and not found anything related to hydro testing of the tank. Is it required or recommended to have the tank tested every 5 years like you would a scuba or any other tank??
Another question about the tank is I see comments posted of filling beyond 3,000psi. I know I don’t think I would and physically have a hard enough time getting to 3k, but what is the safety valve rated at? I have read of some putting 3400psi in their tanks or higher. Allan

Yep, we heard how someone in Florida sanded and repainted a scuba tank and caused it to blow…

Isn’t hydro 2.5 times the working pressure? I don’t remember myself, but I just had a Scuba tank hydro tested, with vis, and the shop fills mine to 3300 – 3350 on a regular basis. They know I fill air guns with them. I really should just sell them my two scuba tanks and get an SCBA 4.5K tank. Hell it would be lighter, and I would still most likely get just as many fills as the other two provide. I have also seen M-Rod owners fill those guns to 3200 and 3300, considering the pressure vessel is basically a high strength tube, I think that might be more dangerous. Ever seen a burst disk on an M-Rod? Remember the 3K is working pressure, like Dayotat stated many have filled above the 3K mark, and the US safety standards are much stricter than other countries. But in all fairness these things can be bombs, last year a fellow in the Tampa area had a Scuba tank blow, flattened his apartment, and damaged his neighbors. He didn’t make it. The scuba shop I deal with reported their was a specific year or two that some aluminum tanks were produced with an inferior alloy, and those tanks are generally pulled from service as they are found. DOT does say any tank over two inches in diameter needs to be hydro tested every five years. Your local scuba shop can get your Air Force tank hydro tested for you, but as stated before, they really over pressurize them and measure how much they expand, too much, and it fails. But if your filling at home, and staying under the 3K mark, which most find their sweet spot from 2600-2800 PSI then the choice is yours.
Just my 2cents, remember, be safe HPA is dangerous.

I had a burst disk give out on a 4500 PSI tank.
There is no way my compressor could have gotten to.7500.
I was lubing the compressor every 1000 PSI expected it to shut down soon but by the rate it had been filling it shouldn’t have been over 4700 PSI.
Apparently there was a bad batch of burst disks manufactured at that time as there was a run on replacements. I got one in a couple days so was only down a tolerable length of time.
I would never have known I had a defective one if I hadn’t lost track of the run time. So I guess that was a good thing. Or is the replacement another one of the 4700 PSI VARIETY? Yep, I had messed with the compressor attempting to get 4500 PSI Fill every time.
Wow, I hope I never blow a true 7500 PSI.burst Disk.That ought to be good for.nltrogen tanks.
And just think, a few hundred PSI could eliminate some of the unemployment in the world 😆
Tanks are hydroed before they are sold. Did you know that a 3000 psi tank has a 5000 psi burst disc and a 4500 psi tank has a 7500 psi.
To me I think that both are to high but that is what they are.
If you fill to 3000 and put your tank in the sun it will get to over 3500 psi on a hot summer day.
Tanks have a 10% cusion. Call a welding supply and they will tell you.
Gaurentee half the people on here over fill there tanks and don’t even realize it. The smaller the gauge you use the less accurate they are. I have seen 200 psi on the 2″ gauges and up to 400 on the 1″ gauges.
I fill with a $170 digital gauge that is +- 1%. I have another digital gauge that I check other gauges with and setup regs with that is +-0.25%.
Not really worried about filling a tank 300 psi over and knowing its 300 psi over when people are filling to 3000 psi and could be filling to 3300 psi then going out in the sun.
I err on the side of safety. It’s why I asked if I need to have it hydro’ed after 5 yrs. And no I do not want to go over 3k but if I fill to 3k inside my home where the temp is about 72 degrees and go outside for hours in 95-102 degrees, which is normal for the summer here, the pressure is going to go up. So I would not want to have a sudden expulsion of air from the tank. If I wanted higher pressure I would buy the proper tank and adapters to connect to the Condor to run above 3k. To me those going over the 3k limit are taking a risk, you never know when a brand new tank has a faulty spot just waiting to happen. Safety is first and all accidents can be prevented. Allan
I prefer to err on the side of safety. I have a nack of finding the one bad part in a pile or being one of the first to have a problem.

As I see it, some work very hard to get the most out of their rifles.
Then a noob comes along and doesn’t understand all the extra precautions, the harder o-rings, or an improved design that was incorporated in getting beyond normal results. It can be a recipe for disaster.
Tanks have a 10% on fill. So that would be 3300 psi. They hydro them to 4500 psi.
I fill to 3300 psi but never leave the tank with more than 3000 psi so if temp changes. I have filled to 3500 psi also but I don’t do it that often.
Hey Lurker, my Dad told me that joke years ago, if you have a new tank it has a pressure relief valve, so you should be careful going past 3k. I have went to 3100 a few times, on my tanks with the pressure relief valve and had no problems.

It’s only 3,000+ pounds of pressure that probably won’t take your head clean off.
We have yet to hear about that happening but I wonder if it would hurt much ❓
