condor or talon ss?
Used to have a condor in .22 w/12″bbl, homemade baffles; quiet. Great backpack squirrel gun in deer stand early archery. Unfortunately sold it last year, and looking to buy another rig to replace it. Had the detachable tank and old trigger/safety and ability to uncock it when squirrel changes gears, without having to shoot it and scare potential buck close by. Power wheel set at 0 and perfect for treestand or backyard use, with potential to go to the 18/24″ bbls. Should I try to find another old style condor, and if not available, will an old style talon ss do? Or do I get the new condor or talonss, with spinlock, new baffles and “fix” trigger to allow uncocking? Frame issues??? The talonss would be cheaper, but overall what would be important differences? Thats very true use whats comfortable. For me the spin loc is easiest as I dont have to carry a fill adapter and I dont have to remove the tank every time I fill. :2cents:
Oh, I do have all sorts of tools “just in case”.
I really don’t care what one prefers.
I was just suggesting that the quick disconned does not need a tool to be operated.
With the spinlock, you always need the tool.
So one always should pick what they feel confortable with.
I feel confortable going out in the field with a quick connect so I don’t have to fumble with tools.

I guess if you cant manage to carry a very small allen key then it would make a big difference :winkn: I typically carry a couple things just in case something comes loose but I guess not everyone has the ability to add 3 ” and 2 oz of an item to carry. On the other hand if you had the collar set screw come loose on that quick detach tank model and did not have the allen key for the set screw you would not be able to attach or remove the quick detach tank either. So for me I just carry that little allen key so I dont have any issues with something getting loose and causing problems.
No tools needed for quick detach tanks. Makes it easier hunting cause you don’t have to fumble with little things and you can “detach/attach quicky” 😉
I am not sure why people make it sound like you cannot easily remove the spin loc tank but it is actually just as easy as a so called quick detach. The only difference is you have to loosen a set screw then you literally unscrew the collar from the tank and you are done. The quick detach tank is only faster in that you can just unscrew it so I guess if it is really that hard to loosen a set screw then the quick detach would be better 🙄
Oh yeah- what was I thinking?! DUH 😳 To convert a spin-loc tank to a non spin-loc all you have to do is remove the fill nipple and the gauge and plug the holes left behind. Either buy the plugs from Tony at Talontunes, or find some at the hardware store… I can’t remember what size…

my talonSS frame has a spinlock set, but I use qucik detach tanks.

Thank you everyone; it was a difficult choice, but I finally decided on a condor with the new spinlock and trigger, just in case in the future I opt for one of the larger caliber aftermarket bbls for coyotes. Can I remove the spinlock tank and use a normal quick-detach tank for field trips to archery deer/squirrel stand? As an option, can I remove the gauge and fill nipple, and use the tank as a quick-detach without having to use the wrench to re-attach it also, without affecting accuracy? Also, any recommends as to what could be used to take the place of the gauge and nipple? Again, thanks in advance!!!
Yep. The condor and talonSS have the same length frame. barrel length and end cap is different. Of course, the talon SS also has the baffles. Ask around, I think the spinloc collar can be swapped out for a quick detatch (old syle) collar. I would go with a quick detatch if looking for a pack gun. If ordering from AF you can get the old style trigger with a newer frame, but as far as I know you cant get an older frame anymore.

the talonSS is shorter than the CondorSS.
If you want one even shorter, find a Talon frame.
I don’t use a spinlock tank for the pack rig. I use a quick detatch tank and a standard valve.
The quick detatch does not have a gauge but I know I can take many shots before I really need to refill.
So for a hunt day there is plenty and no need to see the actual pressure reading.
Jee, I wish I could get as many squirrels in one day enough to get me over the shots limit!
I haven’t had any need for higher flow so far, and have successfully hunted squirrels and cotton tails.
The woods I hunt there is no way to shoot beyond 30yds anyway. Too many sticks in the way 🙂

Thanks for the suggestion; I can get a talon ss cheaper then a condor with 12″ bbl, since It would come stock with the 24″, with the 12″ an additional purchase. Have a question, though. You mentioned the talon ss is shorter than the condor frame with a 12″ bbl. I thought they were both 32.75″ in the 12″ bbl config with end cap. Also, do you use the hi-flow tank, and how hard is it to use a spinlock setup when constantly taking gun down, etc… Would it start wearing any parts, cause accuracy issues, etc? I may plan to use a larger caliber in the future for bigger critters (larger than .25), and if the talon ss frame flex will handle it, even better. Still, I haven’t ruled out the idea of the talon ss for most applications; just want to be sure I do my homework before committing. Any suggestions?

if you are planning for a backpack friendly rig, the TalonSS is shorter than the CondorSS and might fit better in your pack.
That is if you are happy with a 12″ barrel, which in .22 is plenty for squirrels.
I am actually doing exacly that.

I now see the spinlock could definitely work in a pinch if need be out in the field. Should probably get a quick detach just for field use or as a spare. Thanks again, and Happy Thanksgiving to everyone out there!
