couch hunting….mk350

well i got my nightscope from opticsplanet….mk350 a gen1 scope….the spot has been baited with fishsticks and fries….wireless camera is on, and tv next to computer running with the image of the yard….

neighbor came in with a bag of oranges, and said if Obi the dog had been going crazy over the racoons that has been visiting the last couple of nights….other than a big healthy possum i caught…i couldnt say i had seen anything

well back to the NV….its a “cheapo” atn mk350 that opticsplanet charges 400 bucks for (sportmans guide has it for 360+ship) i have had a gen2 monocular that i used to mount behind a scope….it worked fairly well, and no rezero between day or night mode.

the major difference i see with the mk350 is that it not as sharp in the picture as the gen2 and its lagging a bit behind in the light amplification….but honestly the gen2 lost a bit when mounted behind scope….still better than gen1 but not by much.

at 30 yards i can easily recognize whats in the yard as long as its rat sized or larger…50 yards i haven’t really tried but i would think it would be the same….as distance increases the difficulty of determining/seeing a rat sized target will be a bit hard i think….it comes with fixed 4x zoom which is fine for night hunting imho….since it gives you a good field of view.

getting the scope on target(in a quiet backyard) with neighbors all around took 5 shots, it was only off by 3″ to begin with, but after my adjustment of what i thought was 1/8″ adjustments…i was off by half a foot…luckily i could remember approximately where it was when i begun…so it was faily easy.

one annoyance with this scope is the mount….on my rapid the magazine goes somewhat into the weaver rail to keep things low….which means it has to be mounted either in front of the mag or behind it….front and its too far forward, and behind and its too far backwards….i mounted it in front, cheekweld is impossible….but is can hold the rifle correctly

it comes with a 450mw illimunator that can be focused….and its darn good…very bright and throws the light nicely at least to 50yards (sorry dont have much more room to test while the cope is on the rifle !

a keeper or not….i dont know…i got an eotech and with a digital NV i would have a nice day/night option, that doesnt get ruined when wife decides to turn on the light in the yard to see what im doing hmmmm

biggest downside to this scope is the height and weight….it sites very high, and it adds tons of weight to the rifle…for airgunning at known ranges i think its pretty good, within 50 yards…it will do nicely….beyond i dont know….but i think it can work to about 100 yards….and after that you should get a gen2 or higher….
