Q:

Cricket- 150 Shots w/22fps Spread!!!

Put in a new spring (had to do some cutting, heating and bending) and managed to keep the original spring intact…
I can adjust from 910fps to 550fps with the hammer spring adjuster now, and a funny thing happened when I went to chrony…

I got 150 shots!!!! And it wasn’t filled all the way to 4500psi!

Had around 3500psi in the SCBA tank so I could probably get more than the 150 if I filled all the way to 4500psi.
Tank pressure spread 3500psi to 1500psi, 2000psi used total.

Max 886.2
Min 863.5

Standard deviation is 4.3fps, average deviation is 3.4fps.
There is a 16fps max jump (spread between shots) works out to be a 1.8% velocity change, I think I can live with that… :mrgreen:

So far the Cricket is shaping up a bit better than the EdGun with velocities in the mid to upper 800’s without touching the regulator.

Tomorrow I test the accuracy.

Is this 177?

Excellent shot string, thanks for sharing.

Syn;

Why you need to cat the spring? ins’t loosening the hammer spring tension to the right step is good? or easier?

another question Syn;
When you loosen the hammer spring tension, all the ready air for shooting in the reg is not come out? isn’t it? and it will repeat for every shot, so, what will happen to the remain air in the reg? or the reg spring is letting the need air to the air tube of the reg itself?!

The EdGun reg is set to 925-935fps and when I turned the hammer spring tension down (after cutting the spring)

I think I have done all I can with both rifles without adjusting the regs. I have not adjusted the regs on either rifle yet.

The EdGun reg is set to 925-935fps and when I turned the hammer spring tension down (after cutting the spring) and got the fps in the 875 range it became less consistent from shot to shot (from 10fps to almost 20fps). It was much better in the 910-920fps range for sure.

The Cricket shot to shot consistency hasn’t really changed as drastically as the EdGun once I turned down the hammer spring tension (had to customize a store bought spring). So I suspect the reg is set closer to the 880-890 range.

From some of the tuning numbers I have seen from Demp and OG (for the EdGuns) and Ernest (Crickets), I think I can easily get both of these rifles to where I want them.

The interesting part is going to be which one gets more shots in the end. 😀 And of course accuracy is the real deciding factor in terms of which one I use for competition. Right now I think I am going to use the Cricket for Sunday’s match, the EdGun is a little all over the map with the velocities. But since I have the scope set up on theEdGun i’ll try it out on some groups with the lower velocities before I put the scope on the Cricket.

With the way the Cricket is shooting I could do a whole two day field target match (120 shots) without a fill!!! :18:

WOW, this is really great result expectation, hope you do that in the future when you have time. 😛

I need to turn down the reg on my EdGun and it’s already giving me 150+ shots at 910 fps… :8:
Once I turn it down and get the velocity in the 875 range I think 175 to 200 shots may be possible. 😯

Syn; which way do you prefer for increasing the shot count & shot to shot consistency? hammer spring adjuster or Regulator?

quote synopsys:

The real challenge is the shot to shot consistency. I’d like to get the jump in velocity down to 5-7fps between shots max (around 1% of the average velocity).
I have yet to open either of the rifles up and change the reg pressure. Once I do that I think the shot to shot spread will come down, I hope.

It also looks like my only limit so far in terms of total shots per fill is getting down into the sub 1500psi range n(sub 100bar). Apparently it’s not good to keep shooting if there isn’t a whole bunch of pressure in the valve, but I get the feeling with the reduced spring tension in the 177 I can probably run a bit lower valve back pressure than say a 25 caliber can.

I could have kept going on both the Cricket and EdGun shot strings but stopped at the (80-100bar) mark to be safe. 😉

Syn;

nice result, i think you will become a master of PCP air rifles after some times, :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

One question; if you put an air tube with 4500psi for Edgun, how many shots do you expect?
do you think this is possible?

I believe that Edgun regulator is more efficient, that is why i am asking you this question!

Thanks, can’t wait to see the accuracy result.
