Q:

Cricket & Scope Ring Heights

So when I first got my Cricket I put a SW TAC with Weaver 6 screw mid profile rings. My back yard range is 22yds, and I was able to zero the rifle. Well I sent back the scope and rings because A. the scope appeared to be used(Amazon retailer) and B. the mid level rings were a bit too low.

So I’ve since then replaced the scope and rings with a Hawke Eclipse 6-24X50 and Weaver 6 screw High profile rings. Well I ran out of elevation adjustment with the Eclipse but I was able to use my Hawke SW 3-12X50 and get the crosshairs zeroed. BUT I tried to zero at 12 yards and I ran out of elevation on the SW as well! Actually I still had elevation but despite numerous clicks upward my POI wouldn’t change, and then finally I ran out of elevation and it still didn’t change the POI

Anybody have this issue? I’ve ordered a set of UTG mid profile quick release rings to see if it’s the rings. I notice the Weaver rings from mid to high didn’t seem much different in height. I even tried tightening the back rings first but that didn’t seem to help with the Weaver rings.

I’ve been able to zero both scopes on my Airwolf so I don’t think its the scopes.

Crickets and 20 yards? Time to move. 🙂

Kinda my thoughts exactly .. 😀 I almost never shot my Ed´s on less than 50 meters – except at my backyard at 27m/30 ft when i didn´t have the time to get to somewhere else or while tuning.

This is what I do… I zero for 47 yards to keep my kill zone optimized for my setup. If I recall 35 yards it the top of my curve and I know it’s around .5 inches above my crosshairs. So like between 14 to 52 if I were to hold dead nuts I should only be off by .5 inches up and down. I then utilize the mildots for close and far as deemed. Now this data is only good at x20. I often utilize x8 power for close shots and have another DOPE card for that as well. I just don’t have a picture for it, but you get the idea. I know this may seem basic to most but some guys really don’t have experience with this sort of thing yet. Sometimes a picture is worth 1000 words. I hope this helps.

Thanks for taking the time to post….I am not having issues knowing where POI will be at various ranges…..The issue I’m having is I bought a Hawke Eclipse 6-24X50 paired with a set of Weaver brand High Profile 6 screw rings….with this combination I can not achieve center cross hair zero or “dead nuts” at 20 yards which is the length I have to shoot in my shitty small back yard. I was able to achieve zero with the medium profile rings, however my cheek weld didn’t allow for a good sight picture in the scope. That’s why I went to the high profile. With the high profile rings I can only get my Hawke SW 3-12X50 sr6 zeroed at 20yds. But if I move up to closer ranges I can’t zero it. I get what you’re saying….zero it at 20 and know what crosshairs to hold over at 10. I can accept that, I just wondered if anyone else has had similar experience…and it seems others have and have used Burris Signature “Zee” Rings with shims to correct for shorter distances.

Thanks for your help gentlemen!

Oops I mean hold over. Did you center the scope to start?

The SW adjustment range is 62 MOA – not sure on the Eclipse.

The 12 yards is the problem – not the scope. I went through this too before. Sight it in at least 20 yards. If you look on Chairgun Pro you will see why. You have to aim below the target at those real close ranges.

Huh? If I am zeroed at say 20yds and I move up to 10yds my POI will be lower than the zero. So wouldn’t closer ranges mean you have to aim higher?

But thats just it I couldn’t zero the Eclipse at 20yds using Weaver 6 screw High’s I ran out of UP elevation, I was able to zero the Sidewinder but only at 20yds. At closer I ran out of up too. I’ll give those Burris Sig. Z rings a go. I think shimming up the rear side will help. This might also be due to the fact that the scope sits so far up on the barrel…so perhaps a Leapers Bug Buster would be more adequate for closer ranges.

Didn´t think of that. Way below actually … 😯

A – Shim the rear ring (if your POI is too low,the front otherwise)
or,better yet
B – Get a set of Burris Sign. Zee rings with off-set inserts

No need to thank me – i´m born to help my fellow gun geeks without getting paid … :6:
