Q:

Cricket noise

I have a Cricket question that I’m hoping one of you Cricket owners can answer… if at all possible. It’s the often asked question that goes around the forums – “How quiet is the gun.” I’ve read all the posts, including Zocoloco’s magnificent series, and from that know that the slightly less powerful Cricket is quieter than an Edgun R3… but I have never shot an R3, so I’m not sure where that falls in the loudness spectrum. My personal standard for a quiet gun was my de-pinged .177 Marauder. Not a fair comparison to a 30 fp shooting .22, but that sucker was quiet. Where I shoot I really want the pellet striking the paper, or fur, to be quieter than the shot. I have an FX Royale, shooting at 30 fp, and it’s as quiet as the Marauder… but I had to add an additional 7″ suppressor to the gun… which makes it a very long gun. Anyone willing to offer a comparison or other ramblings on Cricket noise???

And, any of you Cricket owners seeing new shortcomings, other than the fill probe and price, that make you question your purchase? I really want one, but dropping 2k on a recently introduced gun (US market anyway) is making this cheap and chicken shooter quite hesitant.javascript:emoticon(‘:D’)

dwm I did it again 😳 wrote up a long responce to your questions to me and hit the wrong damn button…. πŸ™ So now you get the short version.. πŸ˜€

Got it from Dima “offical Kalibr dealer” in the US
Russian / Czech quality I have no reference there maybe Zocoloco can help ❓
No soft case with the Cricket
Three handed magazine release for only your frist time or two removing it from the rifle… 😳 😳 😎
Marauders are what they are….not bad for the money πŸ˜•
Magazine release handle/knob is fine….but must be in forward down position or you have a single shot rifle 😳 😳 did that πŸ˜†
The little lady speakes softly for sure πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€
Shot this afternoon at fifty yards groups good with JSB 18.3, 15.8, Baracuda 21.1

Hope this helps and I am happy with the rifle πŸ˜€ Like to get it on the chrony soon.

I was hoping you would pop your head up Zocoloco! I was re-reading your posts and it got me thinking… it would be interesting to see if there has been any changes from your generation of the Cricket to those being imported to you the US. Probably not.

Cheers!

quote dwm:

I’m wondering if your gun seems better engineered/built having come out of the Czech plant (I’m assuming Zocoloco’s gun is Russan) and might be of slightly better quality.

This is an interesting question. I am trying to get a Cricket from the Czech production to compare, and I will report back in due course. That said, I don’t think there is much difference in quality. But I would appreciate more reports on the quality from the guys in the US who have received their guns. So far very few have reported back…. πŸ˜₯

We need more reports folks !!! πŸ˜€

So it needs to be chirp-chirp-chirp- instead of CHIRP-CHIRP-CHIRP! πŸ˜†

I love your handle! Reminds me of how I feel when I get out of bed:)

I like FX’s quality, but my previous PCP was a Marauder, so the Royale was quite the upgrade. It is odd the owner hasn’t provided for you southpaws, being one himself?

Mind if I ask some questions about your Cricket?
Which dealer did you get your Cricket from and did it come with a soft case like the Edgun. I think not.
Zocoloco mentions the Cricket’s magazine release knob requiring 3 hands to use until you get the hang of it, and that the mechanism seems like it could become a weak link (I’m paraphrasing and probably have that all wrong). I’m wondering if your gun seems better engineered/built having come out of the Czech plant (I’m assuming Zocoloco’s gun is Russan) and might be of slightly better quality. Since you haven’t seen Zocoloco’s Cricket there is no way to answer that, but do you feel you Cricket’s mechanism is of 2K quality? And last, can you tell us what your fix was to add the foster adaptor. I think it was an adaptor from Pyramyd, but I can’t find that in the posts. I know some of this has been covered, just too lazy to go back through it all:)

Thanks again!

Hey dwm thanks for the offer of the Royale but I’ll pass thanks anyway. I am interested in the FX smooth twist barrels and their new big bore rifle. FX big problem for me is their lack of ambidextrous stocks. Lefty here 😈 The crazy thing about that is the owner of FX shoots lefthanded 😯 go figure. I hate to spend big money on a rifle and then have to restock it…..sucks πŸ™

I’ve spent alittle time in Seattle πŸ˜€ watch out for the gun nazisee out there….. πŸ‘Ώ bad folks….

Guys, you are tempting me with this Cricket data…

my Full Shrouded Indy .22 at medium power is awsome too, so IF Cricket do it so…

i give one Β¨ :thumb: I like Β¨ to this post!!

Wow! Cool! Mine is about 3 years old, before they added the power adjuster. I wonder if they added baffles to the shroud? My Royale’s shroud is just a hollow tube, and louder than I prefer.

Thanks for the input jr.

My 400 royale .22 is absolutely quiet and the verminator mk2 .22
from AOA…not only backyard friendly…patio friendly…people and dogs sitting close to me do not move or complain

JR

Hey jr,

Are you saying your Royale and Verminator are quiet, or others in your arsenal? My Royale is loud without the additional suppressor… at least compared to a Marauder.

Thanks!

JR

Hey 1OldGuy2 and Demo223, thanks for the feedback on the R3 and the Cricket. Helps a bunch! Now I just need to sell my long and loud Royale:)
Either of you want to buy it.

Cheers,

dwm

Pretty quiet, not very scientific but sure neighbor friendly. I have a Tony built Talon SS that every body says is very quiet for a 25 caliber and the Cricket makes less noise. I also have a Daystate Air Wolf with a Huggett shroud in 22 caliber that makes less noise than the Cricket but not by very much and that rifle is damn quiet. Scary quiet 😯 πŸ˜€

Let’s just say I know somebody that has shot pigeons in a down town area from a vehicle and NOBODY turned around to see what the noise was and several folks were close by….. 😎

Would I buy another one or do it over with what I know now πŸ™„ ❓ YES I would, very happy so far. I still want an R3 in 25 long but that really is a different animal.

The fill probe issue has been addressed. Fast dealer responce for sure. Time will tell if any issues come up but none so far. We all are a long ways from having working knowledge of the inner workings of the Cricket as far as tune ups and maintenance goes. No “OldGoat” yet for us Cricket guys πŸ™ But I love my little Bug gun.

I can’t answer on Cricket but can give you idea on Edgun 22 long at 880fps with JSB 18s. I’m opposite of you as I want shot to be quieter than impact on target. Best example is to hold hand arms length away from ear and snap finger. I have a pretty normal sound level snap compared to friends and find this to be accurate. Or if you ever shot a dove/pigeon at 90-100 yds or cardboard backed paper target at 50-60 the pellet strike you hear is a little louder than muzzle report in front of you. Most pronounced sound is hammer hitting valve. Hope that helps some
