Way cool, I wondered when someone was going to get around to this,
I just do not have the tool and know how to even begin to do something like this.
one LB off the stock really does not seem worth it. Two lbs and now its making since,

I’m seriously thinking about taking it out as well as cutting down the fore end to a lower profile. There is also still room to take more material off the sides and sides of the buttstock. For now, I think I’m going to try it like this for a while. One thing I’ve noticed already noticed is that the modified stock makes the gun a bit front heavy. It’s not a bad thing, but it does change the feel of the gun quite a bit. …one reason I’m going to try it like this for a bit.
what about the material on the forward piece of the magazine holder? It does not look like it is there for strength.
Well I did a little whittling last night… got it roughed in. Here’s how it looks now. Got to do some finish sanding then put a coating (of some kind) on it. I weighed both stocks this morning… Modified version is 0.8 pound lighter. I really think I could take off another .2 pounds and make it a full pound lighter, but I’m going to stop here. None of the material I removed had anything to do with the strength and integrity of the stock… just a waste of plastic (or rubber, whatever that stuff is). I will post the finished product when I’m done…

Now I’m thinking of severely hacking off some wood mass on an extra Bullpup stock I have.
Hopefully it fits or with some minor tweaking and they will start selling the Cricket 9 milli stock someday soon, I think it’s a winner also !

As a matter of fact, I ordered a spare synthetic stock from WWAG. Got it today. The intent is to study it and remove all excess material I can to see how light I can get it without jeopardizing its integrity. Of course first thing that goes is that useless magazine holder… Then I get to whackin’ and grindin’ and sandin’… IF I get GOOD results, I’ll post up.
Heck yeah please do post good or bad so we can see what to do or not to do

Ya, I wish I bought 2 instead of 1 Skeleton stock from WWAG when they had them.

I have a AF scope I think, I still have it somewhere ?
I’d save up and get something better, Japan glass maybe cause that Cricket deserves something better.

I plan to set it up like my my .25 so hopefully I can get them shooting the same. The .25 has a Hawke 6.5-20 Sidewinder 30 tactical. It works pretty good. I got that Air Force scope on a CondorSS I bought. The mount is worth more than the scope. It was just all I had free to stick on it to go shoot it…
Man, I sure wish I could get my hands on a skeleton stock for my .25

Here’s a quick pic of my .22 std. I got if off the Yellow. It has a very nice stock and the only quick scope I had to put on it was this old Air Force with a QD PEPR mount. I stuck it on and went to the woods to try it out… Man, this thing is sweeeeet. First .22 version I’ve had, and with the skeleton stock, it’s sure a LOT lighter and quicker pointing than that big ol’ heavy .25 synthetic! Might be a little light for the piggies, but shame on those little gray tree rats! Also it is short and easy to shoot out of my truck… lots of turtles in the “bar” ditches on the property.
And it’s got one of Donny’s CF shrouds. I already have his LDC and with that combo, it is VERY quiet!!! Definitely backyard friendly.

It did make a lot of difference really. Other than the change in balance, it was immediately obvious that the modified stock made the whole gun feel a lot lighter. The other thing I want to do is weigh the modified stock and the skeleton wood stock I have and see how they compare. Just feeling both guns, I’m thinking the modded stock is close to the skeleton stock in weight… we’ll see. My plan is to do some shooting with it this weekend. That will be the acid test. I want to walk around in the woods and see how well it does with me chasing squirrels…
