Q:

Cricket Tune

Ok Cricket owners looking for some advice, been in contact with the Guru and i’m going to have my Cricket .22 standard tuned. I will be shooting 18 & 16 grain JSB, and Polymags and metalmags. **** Two part question how is you’re Cricket setup of FPS/FPE/Pellet and why? **** This is just for a reference I know you have to put in the time at the Chrony I just want to see what other people have done. I’ve seen research that proves that pellets perform better or worse with FPS settings for those whom have power adjustable rifles. Also seen recommendations for 880 Setup being a sweet spot. Talk to me TAG i’m shipping the gun tomorrow but I’ve got couple of days to get him the info. Looking for guidance.

Joe.

Ernest can get the best shot count if he knows the max fps you want to shoot. Most crickets shoot great between 880-890 fps. If he tunes regulator just for that speed it will perform past your expectations.

Eelct, thanks for the advice, I understand you got to put in the foot work cause each barrel and gun shoots different just looking for how other Crickets are tuned. I have to give a FPE before I ever even shot it so just looking for an average or some insight to what others before me have done and WHY. I put my S510 through 10K of pellets to get to know her intimately, what she likes, what she will tolerate, at what FPS with what pellets she will put pellet on pellet inside of 25 yards, etc. I believe after Ernest sets it up i will still be able to dial down the FPS / FPE to figure things out but he will be adjusting the regulated (above my understanding at this point) of an optimal shot count at a certain FPE. I will just be adjusting the hammers spring tensioner to slow it down or speed it up. I guess.

In all reality nobody can answer your question because each gun is slightly different. You have to take the gun and give barrel a good cleaning. Then set up chronograph and start shooting 50 yard with 5 shot groups. Start from highest speed and slowly decrease speed by 10 fps and see where your gun takes you. That’s the only way to do it. If she lets you group less than 1/2″ at 50 yards that’s what you want to have her tune to. I just saw Ernest post his 22 doing 35fpe and doing 1/4 groups at 50. My gun needs to be at 32 fps to keep those groups together like that. But I did notice he has a trick up his sleeve while looking at pictures.
