Cronied my s410… a bit concerned
I pulled out the crony today to get a ball park figure in how it’s shooting. Well it’s got OK power, but it takes a while to reach it. I’m talking like a 50 fps spread between the first and 20th shot, where it finally reaches it’s peak. Once it’s there, it stays real good for the next 10 shots or so, before it slowly drops. This is starting at 2900psi. At 20 yrds accuracy is no issue thru out the range, but I’m thinking at further ranges this could be an issue unless I fill to way less, to hit the peak right away, but with less shots.
Any input would be appreciated

My chrono readings were taken outdoors and I set it up about 1 foot from the muzzle. I’m using a Pro Chrono digital but it was only $99.00 so it might not be the best. I have an older Oehler 35P that was really good 20 years ago. I will take them both out when I get a chance and compare the readings.
What kind of light are you using for your crony? I shot a string once under a light that confused my crony, giving me numbers that were to high. Then I shot a string outside in daylight, bingo, the #’s dropped to where they should be. But maybe you have a gun with really good power… that would be the best senario eh! But then again, I’m hoping my gun isn’t UNDER powered for some reason…
Maybe my chrony is being overly optimistic! I have an older chronograph that I will have to take out and double check the velocity readings.
Well, I don’t have the entire string at hand, but with CP’s which are 14.3 gr, 2900 fill, the first shot was 901fps, and climbed to 951 around 18 shots. So if you’re doing 970’s with 15.8 gr, your gun is blowing alot more air than mine is. I would think you’d be getting close to 1000fps with Cp’s
Well it looks like your 2900 fill has about the same ES as my 2800 psi fill. They are both about 50fps over the first 20 shots. 50 fps sounds like a lot when you say it but 50 fps is probably only about a 5% – 8% variation in overall velocity. I would think that if you set up a target at 40-50 yards that the 50 fps variation over the first 20 shots would not even change your point of impact enough to notice. What velocities are you getting over your first 20 shots?

At 2900 psi fill it reached it’s max velocity of 975fps on shot #13 and didn’t fall below 920 fps untill shot #33 At 2900 psi fill the extreme spread over the first 20 shots was only 22fps compared to 53 fps with the 2800 psi fill. This is all with the 15.8gr Exacts.
Well, I guess this proves that airguns can vary, even if it’s the exact same model, I think I’d rather have your specs from the looks of it!

Glad to hear that YN, looks like 2800 max fills are the way to go for me. At the top it’s doing 28 fpe with CP’s, and 33 fpe with Kodiaks, so I have no concerns in that dept. 🙂
That seems normal. They do seem to dislike fills close to 3000 PSI, just fill slightly less.
