crony results and 20 yard groups BSA Scorpion .22

I cronied 40 shots in all using JSB 15.9 Diablo exact in .22, however, I continued shooting, on the same fill, through 65 shots and I was quite surprised to discover that my last group of five was extremely accurate (keep in mind that BSA claims the FAC model (mine) will give you 20 shots per fill. When I did not notice any change in accuracy through 60 shots, I was pleasantly surprised. However, the POI did start to drop 1/2″ on shots 50 through 55 and 3/4″ on shots 55 through 60, but still nice groups!

I’m not certain of end pressure on the 60 shot string, but when I did a 40 shot string (on a different day) I started at 3,000 psi (incidentally, BSA recommends a fill pressure 3200 or 3250 psi) My scuba tank is 3,000 psi. My end pressure was 1,100 after the 40 shots (at least I think so because thats where my gauge was at when I heard the valve open on the rifle). Below is the shot string followed by photos of the groups. Overall, I am quite happy with this rifle. It cycles very well, it shoulders well, and it is nicely balanced, and not nearly as heavy as it looks. It is an extremely accurate rifle and I highly recommend it to anyone considering getting one. I am also left wondering what would the difference in fps and shot count numbers have been if I was able to fill to the recommended 3250 psi fill????

The lowest measured FPE through the 40 shots was the last one which was 18.332 FPE

I didn’t crony the next 25 shots, but as aforementioned they grouped very well. and the second to last group of 55 to 60 dropped from the POA to the POI by 1/2″ and the last group of 61 to 65 dropped 3/4″ from the POA at a 20 yard target.

Photos of 5 shot groups @ 20 Yards: center group is first, then 1:00 group (second) then counterclockwise for groups 3 through 7. Group 6 was hole in hole!

There you have it. Let me know what you think? I am no expert on the spreads and energies, but I do think that this rifle groups very well and I think the old aphorism fits: “if it ain’t broke, it don’t need fixin” would apply, but if anyone knows any tricks, techniques, etc. Please do share!
