crow magnums hitting sideways???
still tinkering with my new condor, was shooting the other day with some crossman premiers, and some new beeman crow mags, I decided to try a ‘expansion” test into some bars of soap at about 25 yards, the crossmans zipped right through, but I was having trouble with the crow mags hitting, and when I finally got one on target it had hit the soap sideways. I’m shooting on CO2 ( until I get my shroud) could the sideways hits and bad accuracy be from the lower velocity of the CO2? I thought during several shots I could see the pellet fly through my view through the scope, also, what if anything should I lube my pellets with

I could swear, shooting the crow mags at 65 yards I could see them doing the cork screw flight path.

any projectile with a ’round’ nose can get crazy upon entry in any medium…even hollow points..try a beeman silver arrow…or another good pointed pellet…
i use a good light weight oil to lube my pellets…3 in 1…

The JSB Predator is considered a hollow point. The poly tip makes it more aerodynamic.
I wonder what would be the end game if I filled in the hollowpoint with something kinda soft, like bathroom caulk, it would make it more aerodynamic, and add a touch of weight…………wonder if it’ll still mushroom yaw……………………time to play 🙂
never seen them keyhole in any of my guns from cheap chinese to english rifles….
the bigger the caliper the more accurate they seem to get….my rapid will shoot cloverleaf groups at 30 yards with this pellet….actually accuracy seems to be on par with kodiak at this distance….but squirrels prefer the crowmagnum 😈
EDIT forgot to say that beyond 30-40y i would go for a domed pellet too
The starling shot of my avatar is what happens when a CM hits, devastating to say the least.
I have found past 30 yards they get kinda loosy goosey.
Shooting them out to 65 yards they seemed to do a bit of cork screwing.
I am talking 25 cal CM’s, shit the hollow point is one big cavity, not very aero dynamic.
The kodiaks on the other hand are.

couldnt tell ya the velocity, I’m running CO2 right now, and had the power set at about 8, beyond that I dont know anymore.
What you describe is key holing, but at 75feet??? Very poor performance. I’d be curious to know what the velocity is. I have a moded TSS that shoots crow mags in the low 900s and at 25 yards, the hole is so clean it looks like it was made by a paper punch
Crow mags give mixed results, but they can and do keyhole my targets in some rifles. So seeing one hit your soap sideways doesnt surprise me.

You could try lubing your pellets with air tool oil, which you can get at just about any auto parts store. A little goes a very long way.
thing is, it BARELY went into the soap, it sat sideways in the soap with the pellets edge being about level with the edge of the soap, making me think it hit sideways, and bled off anymore impact, I’ll defeinly play some more, I have a ton of these pellets now anyways 🙂
Seeing the pellet in flight is normal. It’s just reflecting the sun at the perfect angle so you can see it. Kind of like a vapor trail on varmint guns, conditions have to be just right to see it.
As far as sideways, the rest are probably right, just drifting on impact. Try a few more and see if it happens again. If it does, stop shooting crow mags. 😛
If you are worried about it possibly happening with other pellets, look at the entrance hole. If it’s long, it’s probably hit sideways, a circle means it hit correctly. You could possibly check on the crow mag impacts as well. Just look at right where it went in and see if it is elongated or not.
