Q:

crowning degree

Hi guys

Im still very green on barrel modification. Before i make stupid mistake, tried using the search as well as more info on the net, cudnt come to conclusion.

Anyway i would like to know what is the effect of different degree of crowning? I can see cricket’s crowning is much deeper than afc’s. Anyone been playing around with different crowning and perhaps recorded data? Cheers

Thank you for the reply

That make sense that it would be more protected but would steeper angle makes thr groove more uneven?

And also while we’re on this barrel thing, anyone has experience with twistrate? Afc has 1:16 tr and most standard lw has 1:17.7. What does this means in terms of accuracy vs speed. Would this twistrate affecting pellet preference? Perhaps length of pellet?

Im trying to build a benchrest .177 gun for 100m range. Normal barrel seems ok until the wind pick up. So i need heavy pellet, high fps while retaining accuracy. Any suggestion guys?

Cheers. Ed

As far as I know it does not matter how deep the crown is. The deeper it is the harder it is to screw it up :winkn: . The deeper it is the more it is protected.
