Crushed Valve Stem… just some FYI
Not sure if it’s been discussed before and with pictures but finally decided to take apart my valve assembly on both my Hi-Flo tank to see if everything is operating smoothly as one tank was giving me erratic MV according to my chrony.
Seem like I’ve been tightening the tophat grub screws too much and causing major dipples which lead to valve stem deformatiy that prevented the valve stem from operating smoothly and bind free through the brass base.
Going to order afew new one now.

Tighten only once you have it where you want it then leave it alone and use some green loctite to wick up into the threads to make sure it stays put
The Talon one was like $4.95….On a $500 gun, that is DIRT cheap.

Not sure yet, I just e-mailed Rachel at Airforce to give me a price and to see if they have them in stock.
I’m actually a fan of one-piece valve stems and see no need for the adjustment. A gun can be balanced out to run on other tuning parameters

The one in the picture is not as bad as the other valve stem and it’s badly deformed where the dimples are. The brass base are in excellent shape including the o-rings. The valve stem that is badly deformed and binding is the one that is giving me erratic MV.
Also forgot to mention as well that I took apart the valve assembly on the Co2 adapter and all was ok and when I reassembled it and then finally tightening the tophat grub screws that if they where tightened too much then the valve stem would bind about 5 cm from the botton of the top 😯 with it adjusted to the max TH adjustment. I had to loosen the grub screws just a tad to pervent the valve stem from taking the shape of oval instead of round I guess.

Roc, I doubt that those dimples cause any trouble as they are covered by the tophat. Any deformation of the stem would be external of the valve.
Is the stem oring in good shape and lubed? they are very fragile and may be causing the trouble.

Yup… learn’t my lesson on how soft of a material the valve stem is made from.
Also I think I’m temperarly done with my adjustments… Tank 1 with be set to 950fps for the 21 gr Kodiaks… Tank 2 (once I get a new valve stem) around 950fps with EunJin 28 gr…. and just fun plinking with the Co2 tank at 630 fps with CP 14gr pellets. All for my 18″ Condor.
