Custom 2240 vs stock p-rod
Hey everyone,
I am debating diving into another custom gun, because of the p-rod and woods walker.
I just wanted to know what your guys thoughts are for power, fun, and Unfortunatly price.
For the 2240 I would plan to get the gun to start, then the shortest hipack available, because I only have a 14″ barrel, then a fore arm and stock of some sort.
I wanted to know what the power would be like for that gun, since I am comparing it to a p-rod.
Any suggestions would help, thanks guys.

x2 on what miksatx said. Some people pin it even at 2k, but generally (this is from the manufacturer) if you’re using 2k and less psi, you’re fine w/the standard valve screw. Anything above 2k you need to pin it. If you go with a frankenvalve, you will just have to drill the holes for the two side screws, and slightly enlarge the bottom hole to fit the disco valve screw…
The guy that made the hipac suggest if you plan on 3kpsi fills to add another screw securing the valve. I went ahead and added one on mine anyway. I’m fine with 2kpsi fills for myself anyway. I’d say not to worry if you only fill to 2kpsi.
I went with the custom shop gun with an 18″ barrel and a 10″ hipac system. I buy my parts off of eBay and after comparing the two it was cheaper to just get the custom than build I myself. In my opinion it is worth the wait.
I also had a question about the valve. Does it need to be secured any more than what it is stock for it to be comparable with a hipac? I read something that mentioned securing the valve and wasn’t sure what it meant.
Velocity/Power adjuster is the same thing. You could start with that pistol from the custom shop… Of course, all that is is pretty much a factory hopped up 2240… Hmm… You could build a 22xx from parts for cheaper than what Crosman is trying to charge you- since you’re putting it together, you’re saving some cash right there- and if you order all the parts from them, there’s a flat $4 shipping fee…
Velocity adjuster is that the same as power adjuster?

You can sorta tune the 22xx combo… by using the 2300T velocity adjuster. That’s why I used one in my build… I have to play devil’s advocate to keep your options open!
You can tune the prod you can’t the 2240. I filled my 2540 to 3kpsi but the spring provided with the hipac was so stiff I couldn’t cycle the bolt on the BNM breech. I don’t have a chrony so I have no idea how fast the 2540 spits out pellets. It’s fast enough at 45ft to kill tree rats with head shots. And get 24 power out to 50 ft. I get 30 plus out my stock prod.
Honestly, for what you’re getting, you’re probably better off getting the Prod… I think the 2240/hipac will come out to be more. Here’s what I have done so far:

disco stock (had to fill the gauge hole, and shorten it)
Of course, this project was SUPPOSED to be a parts gun/knock-around gun… it morphed on it’s own!! :rofl: I could have scrimped on more than a few parts… but I said “why not”? It was a fun build. The list was of course, to show that since there’s so many parts for these 22xx guns, and for so cheap (one at a time) that you might lose track of how much you’ve spent. A lot of the little parts for this build were also in my parts bin… so there was a lot of savings there. Just stuff to keep in mind!!
I stand by my original statement: You’re probably better off just getting a P-Rod.

If you didn’t get a crosman power adjuster and would like one, please PM me. It’s brand new, comes with a spring, and has a little grub screw to lock it once you’re done adjusting. Here’s a pic:
