Dear Hoot, Question.
I need to pick your brain on your Dot scope on your Mutant, You use it for close up and short range,
I come across some things at close range, A rabbit sitting in a bush, 10 feet, a Euro dove landing 15 feet in front of my shooting bench,
I thought a dot scope might be good , Maybe a laser would be better????
If the Dot scopes are a 400 dollar starting point , I am out , I spent my big money on my scopes and guns,
What does the ozz the all knowing all seeing Hoot have to say about the Dot V/S laser money thing?
Or as a true Texan would ask. Is the dang Dot thing as good as the red line light thing, ?
Mike

Dear Mule-Hide….
Our friend sactargetshooter has good information!
A laser is a waste of time unless it is at least 100 millia-croutons! You can’t see squat in the daytime, unless they are strong enough to burn a hole in the animal you are aiming at.
A red dot scope can be had for $25 to $100, depending on what you want. Some of them have a half dozen, or more, reticles you can choose from and that is nice!
Ebay has an endless selection, and Pyramydair has some too. There is no magnification, but shooting up close, say 5 yards to 25 yards, there is very little pellet drop.
That’s it…only a very high powered green laser can be readily seen in broad daylight, but they are expensive and potentially dangerous to eyesight.
Get an inexpensive red dot, say $35-$50. You can buy a scope ring on Ebay that has a picatinny slot on top of it, that’s what I used to mount mine on top of the glass scope. While you are at it, pick up a couple 2032 button batteries, that’s what most of the red dots use.
Good luck….
