Q:

Deciding to give FT a try

I havent done much shooting lately and decided to try out FT for some practice.

My AA410 is a .22 and it only has a 10X Scope on it so I’m going to enter HFT at the next local (relatively) match.

I’ve set the Gun at 730 fps with JSB’s to give 19 fpe so today I was practicing the FT Position and zeroing my gun, figuring out the mil dot hold overs (and trying to remember them) and wasn’t doing well at all. I shifted position a little and that seems to have done the trick and I managed this at 33 Yards.

I still don’t expect to shoot a very good score, but it will help me get to know the 410 which is the main reason for entering.

Going to mark the scope AO with distances tomorrow as I was just using a rangefinder today.

Is there a post that has the rules and regs for FT?

YN is only using a 10x scope and he will not be range finding. He will be doing just what I do and that is to focus and they either use the mil dots to range find or be a darn good guesser at the distance.. Practice practice and more practice… HFT is a lot of fun and I only use the max allowed which is 12x….

LOL Adam… But seriously, that’s damn good shooting YN, you should do quite well I would think.

Get a big wheel for your AO adjustment. I was always told to go all the way to the stop/infinity then back down to your yardage for distance changes. Dunno if it really makes a difference, but I know 2 guys on the olympic team and they have always told me to do it.

don’t have to go all the way to the inf. setting, just have to be consistent to remove the “backlash” in the ao/sidewheel. either turn clockwise into your setting or counterclockwise but do it the same every time. eg. If you turn clockwise to a 25 yd setting, then need to go back to a 50 yard setting (counterclockwise), turn past the 50 by a bit then come back to the 50 setting in a clockwise direction.

He forgot to tell you about that quarter

If you shot that group in the sitting position without a bipod.. WOW.. you are ready to get out there and compete for sure. I can’t do any better than that shooting off of my knee… that is great
