Define the word "new" as in want ads ?
First exclude retail sales and Custom parts makerS. They never use the word ” new ” anyway.
When you read a want ad “item For SALE” from a consumer and condition of said item is listed as “New” “NIB” “LNIB” What does that mean to you? I have come to the conclusion that any item purchased from a retailer and received by the consumer and the package factory sealed is broken/opened box and touched/fondled the new item is now used.
To me “new” is in the factory sealed never opened box, I know the box can be “resealed” but that is not what this thread is about. Please don’t hi-jack this thread.
So when you buy a “For Sale” item from the TAG for Sale forum, what do you expect when condition of this item is labeled “NeW”?

I’ve known big stores, e.g. Sears, to repackage and sell as new. They got caught and I did finally get a new auto battery,or I think it was because it didn’t die on me within one year. You lay down your money, you take your chances. If you live long enough you’ll be screwed by big and small. The problem is the lack of morals and lack of fear of reprisal. “LNIB” doesn’t mean shit IMO. What is meaningful is can you get them to make good on what you consider was misrepresented. “Like New” could mean no blemishes and works as good as new But has been used for some time with no measurable wear.
Spacifically, New, NIB, LNIB, or any of those bullshit terms indicate perfect appearance AND does not require service or repair in order to safetly use for it’s original purpose.
