Q:

Different barrels

I have the Linstone barrel on my 22 short Mutant, So far its loved every pellet I put in it, I started shooting out to 60 yards and the group opened up a little , I cleaned the barrel, and cleaned and cleaned, I used Ballistol , cut patches out of my Tee shirts, Patch worm , Super intensive, and Plain felt buttons, Dam it was dirty, Maybe a 1000 shoots, I also installed a Carbon fiber wrap on the shroud, ( THANKS GKU) , I have not shoot it seen cleaning , I will see about posting target pictures if Photo bucket will behave ,
I Emailed Tony to see if I can get a CZ barrel to compare to my barrel, This little gun is worth another 100 bucks sunk into it…
The fat boy with the carbon fiber wrap on the shroud Is the shits, That means good for you old farts, :biggrinn:
Got my red dot in, My lazar in, My light kit in. and the wifes been on vacation the last week. Its just been all sex for me.

Lol yeah I’m hoping since they’ve been working on it for awhile that it’s just going to blow the competition out of the water. Maybe wishful thinking but as of now my Mutant is definitely my go to gun so if there just as good in .25 I won’t know which one to choose.

OK Dairyboy
we got to send you to Mutant AAA group
LOL, I feel the same way , My Crickets are my guns to compare all other guns to,
but my Mutant is a super fun gun to go to,
I had to take a target out at 150 yards today , I had to pick up the gun that I knew could do it with, The 25 Cricket.
I hope the 25 Mutant has the power and the FPS of the 25 Cricket.
Mike

Why don’t you just get the standard? I detuned mine even from shooting in the 900s to 865fps. Gets a ton of shots and extremely accurate. As soon as the .25s come out I’m definitely getting one. If they made them in .177, .22, .25, and .30 I would sell all my guns and have one of each of these Mutants they are that good!

I have my shorty shooting 18.1s with the regulator set at 148 bar. Around 865 fps Average. (Original shorter barrel )

I think 880 to 890 with with 18.1s is achievable (with ok shotcount….) from the 14″ barreled shorty

920 to 940…. that’s a stretch. … I’m sure it can be done but you probably wouldn’t have very many shots.

Mike,

I agree, most of the pcp’s and magnum air rifles do shoot the diablo pellets to the barrels best accuracy @ the 900-950 fps…

As with my Rapid mkII, it shoots its best @ 925 fps with several different weight pellets. Sure some of these very same pellets will open up the groups when I adjust them to close the distance quicker 🙂

I like shooting out long distances with the Rapid, but I just love messing around with all the different pellets.
My Rapid didn’t start out so well, but much time later and help from the guys on airgunadvice.com, and me acquiring a few parts and making a few more; its turned out to be quite special.

The trigger now as it is works well, the accuracy of this heavy rifle is nothing short of spot on too 🙂 I still want to make a way to mount the Atlas bipod to the tank with a clamp of sorts you see around, but not readily available for this sort of mounting. All in all now, this rifle is awesome for sniper style setup to shoot. Carry and walk around style like hunting or much offhand shooting, its not what you want when your 58 years old and like to enjoy things more than see if I can do it 🙂

The trigger of the Mutant sells me the Mutant, the barrel would be the second item, but I messed around with many different barrels on more than a few guns. Its an easy thing to change as compaired to making better triggers… Been there done that too. I have hand made more than a few hammered out, hand filed and honed trigger assemblies.

You guys seem to be so sure of the shorty, I will admit they look awesome, sure they are fun to shoot as well.
I just don’t really want to get into one that only shoots 800 fps with its favorite pellet.

So you guys think 920-940 fps rounds from JSB 18.1’s?
That possible from the .22 shorty? I guess no body is sure yet from the .25 shorty. The .25 shorty sounds good far as its ability with it being .25 caliber and better in the wind. Soooo, its certainly a big possibility.

I got to really soul search here. The air cylinder on the shorty vs the standard the same size or not? If not you guys think we will ever be able to buy the other size tank? That would be a neat thing to have, if they share the same threads that screw into the receiver…

Just buy the new Mutant shorty, 1050 PSI , with 21.1 g pellets what you shooting steel plated sparrows?
I think you might be running into a little wobble at that speeds,
But I am far from an expert and a camera will be needed to tell .
I like all my 22 and 25 guns shooting at around 920 FPS ,
My Mutant 22 is not there and I have not tried out my Chrono after cleaning all the white stuff from leaving the battery in it, May not even work?
Maybe someone will make a super tune video of the Mutant 22 and it will shoot 1,600 fps and you will have to tune it down below 1000 fps to beat it out of the sound barrier and the wobble.
My 48 yard targets and seat of the pants tell me the CZ barrel is shooting a little hotter than the other barrel. That’s just knowing my guns and targets and pellets and some guess work, Nothing I can put on paper yet, NOW, The 18g shoot just as good as the 16g pellets and that was what I was after,

You know I hear you guys, but I am not so sure of the short barrel being able to fire heavy kodiacs 21.1 fast enough to my liking with that short of barrel.

I like everything I read and see on the Mutant, while I like the compact size and weight, I just want to be able to really crank up the speed of heavier pellets if need be. Kodiacs @ 1050fps they really do a great job through my Rapid.

I fear I may need a 24″ barrel to get anywhere close. I just have no experience with the new BullPup’s…

Get the Mutant shorty, Trust me.
Mike

:hoot:

Ditto!

While the “Shorty” is indeed very short…it now has a 14″ barrel, with a recessed ldc, so still same length, and takes a backseat to no bullpup.

All the Mutants you buy now will have a CZ barrel in them, That’s a big plus as CZ are the best of the best,
I bought my gun second hand and someone installed a Linstone barrel in it, I just went back and installed a CZ barrel on mine,
Why? Just because I can,
I have not got down to the sand bags and to the calipers to compare barrels, But its coming, And the Chrystal ball says there close out to 48 yards,
The CZ will start to shine past the 50 yard mark, The future is not clear yet but its looking that way.
P.S
Get the Mutant shorty, Trust me.
Mike

I have been reading all the threads of the Mutants and some over again, just re-reading this one on a different barrel. :4: :5:

It really appears to me for my wants and needs the Mutant is going to be the bullpup of choice. Probably the standard length. Does anyone know if the make or will make and send over the long?

Then in the pic’s I have seen of the different bullpup’s it looks like the LOP is different, gets longer as the barrel gets longer. That true?

Life’s good man! :11: :11: :11:
